No, but I may wait to buy. Styles change and your idea of what you want may change as well. I'd def go and see what you like at the moment though :o)  Also this way you can start to get a figure of a price range.

Mine is May 19, 2012 and I went shopping in August to get a feel for what I like but I'm waiting until the beginning of next year to actually buy.

    Congrats!

It's never too early to catalog shop, but I wouldn't go to a store and try things on yet unless you're willing to commit and buy.

A lot of things can happen in that much time, your size can change, styles can be discontinued, all sorts of things.  You'd hate to find *THE* dress, not be ready to buy, then it gets discontinued and you can't find anything you like as much.  Lots of stores will tell you a dress is likely to be discontinued in an effort to get you to commit, but it does happen.

For the same reason, it's not good to shop for bridesmaids dresses this early either.  Your girls will not appreciate being asked to buy a dress 18 months before an event.  Just think, that's enough time for a girl to get pregnant, and have the baby, sizes could completely change.

Thanks Ladies! I appreciate all the advice! I have 18 months until my wedding day and it sounds like a long time but really its not @ all! My mother suggested I look for a dress and I said the same thing all of you guys said! lol so I'm glad someone else agrees!! Congrats to everyone!

I have my dress -- I started shopping as soon as I got engaged a year ago (that's the only part of planning I wanted anything to do with).  I bought way too soon.  I love my dress -- still do.  But I still see things, in magazines, in girls pictures and I think "maybe if I'd waited longer to buy, I'd have found something better..."

So I'm glad you are waiting :p And for everyone's info, I did try on what seems like a million dresses in Austin and Charlotte :p

I thought that too, and I got my dress 8 months before the wedding at a BABC show where it was "buy now or never see it again".  I love my dress, but the "what ifs" were crazy.

just remember that it can take 6 months to get it in so you may want to get something at least 10 months out.  just depends on how antsy you are to have your dress.  I know that my dress impacted my venue.  :-)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's wedding is so far out! We are planning ours for May 12, 2012 as of right now. I really want to start looking at dresses, but I know me and am afraid that if I look now I will want to buy now. I'm hoping to at least wait until next summer to buy. It's so hard though!!

I would love to go and get a dress right away and love it even after the wedding but I know me!! I'll keep looking at other dresses and find another one I really like and be upset that i couldn't get it. I've found one dress that I really love but I'm so scared to get it. Its such a bargain thought I don't want to give it up! lol

I'm planning to get married in May 2012 and I'm hoping to buy my dress when I'm home for Christmas break in December. One, I don't really care to have the most up to date fashion or something. Two, I feel like I need that to go ahead and plan other parts of the wedding. Three, if I buy it now, it's like it's not an expense associated with the wedding, since it'll be paid for so early. That's just me though.

I never thought about needing the dress to plan the wedding but it makes sense. I'm in the process of looking for a place to have it and then I was going to get my dress. I just have to stick w/ it. Either way it goes I'll still be beautiful <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-sealed.gif" border="0" alt="Sealed" title="Sealed" />

lol I have found alot of couples have picked that date! The main reason I chose for it to be so far away was bc my best friend is in the Army and she had to do to Iraq for a year.

Wow. It's great that you decided to wait for her, shows a lot about y'alls friendship! We're waiting til then because of his job. We don't know where he will be after June, he's in TN right now and Im in NC, and by the time we get settled in the same state again and save enough $$ it will be about that time.
