CLH Brides - Speeches?

Hi ladies.
I am just checking in to see what you all did or are going to do for speeches at the reception.  My dad already said he would like to say something right before dinner after the cocktail hour, but what about the Bestman and MOH speech?  In all other weddings I've been to they have them either during the meal at your seat or later on in the reception.  What are you guys doing?  I would like to have them between courses at dinner, but the acousitics in the dinner room don't seem like they would fare well for speeches.  Thoughts?

I was just going over my notes about this this morning!  I have written down that they are directly after cakecutting in the carriage house (which is directly after dinner).  You're right that it isn't conventional but I'm ok with it.  You could probably do it after your dad's greeting if you wanted.

yeah, we did it shelly-style, with the champagne toast after cake cutting. it worked out well - Steve Binder was my DJ and does a lot of CLH weddings, so he made the flow very natural - there was nothing awkward about it. My hubby made the speech right before dinner and then invited everyone to join us for dinner, which was a nice segway to that.

i think you're right about the dining room acoustics not supporting a MOH/best man speech - especially with the separate rooms. And most people won't be able to see who's talking.

the roadblock to doing it right after your dad's speech is that the champagne toast won't be served until after dinner (and i doubt Shelly would be flexible about that). just something to consider.

Thanks for the tips ladies!  I think I'll just keep it after dinner.  I really don't want the speeches to be after my dads, was hoping someone tried them out in the dining room so I would get an idea.  Wink
