Is Hurricane Earl Ruining Your Labor Day Wedding Plans?

I was just thinking about the Wychmere Harbor Club... every time there's a storm, the water rises onto  the floor.  It would be impossible to hold a reception there during this weekend if Earl grazes the south coast.  And, given that 90% of WHC is on the water, there's no other place to hold a reception. I wonder if places on the water are canceling weddings?

Is anyone getting married on the Cape Sat?  What backup plans are you making?

I'm not getting married, but I know Wychmere is already closed for Friday and Saturday.  We had a meeting set up for Saturday, and they called to cancel.  I feel so bad for anyone who has their wedding up there this weekend...it's going to be tough.  Rain is one thing, but trying to work around a hurricane will add in some serious challenges.

Here's a message from the Wychmere Harbor Club's web site http://www.wychmerebeachclub.com/

    Dear Valued Members,

We regret to inform you that Wychmere Beach Club has been forced to close its season early due to the impending hurricane moving up the east coast. We’re aware that many of you had planned to join us on this last holiday weekend at Wychmere but it seems that mother nature has other plans for all of us.

It takes a full two days to implement Wychmere’s storm protocol, a necessary step to protect the property and insure the safety of our staff from the threat of a potential hurricane. These preparations, which began earlier today, require: we remove all tables, chairs and umbrellas; remove and store away glass panels around upper deck; remove beach kitchen equipment and store off site; dismantle pumps and pool heaters and store off site; shut down harbor club plumbing; shut down part of waste water treatment plant to avoid flooding and contamination of treatment plant; and remove harbor club furniture along with as much kitchen equipment as possible.

We simply cannot take any chances with a storm being called on tonight’s news “a monster that can turn on a dime.” We speak on behalf of the entire Wychmere staff and ownership when say we share your disappointment with the early club closure and cancellation of Saturday’s Labor Day bash. And though member satisfaction is our outmost priority at Wychmere Beach Club, safety trumps all else.

Until now, it’s been a summer of spectacular weather and fun times at Wychmere. And though we’re saying goodbye a little early, we are confident our renovation plans will reveal a Wychmere Beach Club for you and your family to enjoy in 2011 and many seasons thereafter. In the interim, please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

    Very truly yours,

    The Ownership & Management
    Wychmere Beach Club

Wow, does anyone know what happened at Wychmere this weekend!? I got married there in July and I never knew there was any problem with storms, yikes. I feel like we barely got much of a storm at all in Hyannis, just a lot of wind so I feel like a wedding could've happened fine...

Hopefully they just closed the beach club part and not the wedding part, thats much farther away from the actual ocean.
