New to the Knot!

Good morning ladies!  I recently got engaged a few weeks ago and am new to the Knot.  I currently live in Boston with my FI and our engish bulldog and we are planning a wedding for May or June 2011.  I am so excited to start planning!!

One of the places we're considering getting married is Nantucket.  We've spent some time there the past few summers and love it but I don't know much about weddings on the island.  The only place I know that does receptions is the White Elephant.  Has anyone been married or been to a wedding there?  Any other suggestions for venues?  We're hoping to do the ceremony and reception at the same place.

Thanks in advance!!

Congrats!!! I LOVE nantucket. Although I have not been to a wedding there, I do know someone who was married on the Vineyard. A possibilty could be renting a private home on the ocean and hiring a tent company? Check out nantucketweddings.com
Anyways, good luck! Island weddings take a boat load of planning (no pun intended ha). I am getting married on Cuttyhunk in Sept...ahhhhh it will so worth it though. Happy Planning!

OOOH CUTTYHUNK, REALLY?    we go there every summer in our boat.  it is SO relaxing there.  I look forward to the Rawbar Boat every season!  I'm getting married this august in Falmouth on the beach at the FX CASINO WHARF.  i simply cannot wait!!   are you getting married on the beach?  why did you pick Cuttyhunk?  soooooo pretty!

Congrats!  I didn't get married on Nantucket, but I absolutely LOVE it there!  The White Elephant is gorgeous - if I had gotten married on Nantucket that would have been my first choice.  I've also heard of people having their reception in the Whaling Museum, which seems like a cool and different option (not sure if you can have your ceremony there though).  If you want to get a little farther out of town, there are the Wade Cottages in Sconset, The Jetties restaurant on Jetties Beach, or of course the Wauwinet.  GL with the planning! :)

Thanks ladies!  I think the private home idea is great, maybe we'll look into it.  Lauren, Cuttyhunk is such a beautiful place for a wedding!  But it I bet it is a bat load fo work!  Walkn, I love your planning bio!  I'm going to look into the Wade Cottages, didn't know about that as a possibility.  Thanks again!

Thanks girls.... Dorset, I have been going to Cuttyhunk every summer since I was a child and always loved the sprawling lawn of the fishing club....kinda crazy, but totally do-able! My parents go every weekend in the summer on our boat, so we just talked about it and said let's do it! GL everyone...

The Wauwinet only does 2 weddings a year - the first and the last w/end of the season, and you have to take over the entire inn.  Very cool, but very pricy.

You can rent a house on Nantucket and have a tented reception.  There is also the Whaling Museum, the yacht club (not sure if you have to be a member or not) and the camp (I forget its name, but it has a very nice lodge building).  In Sconset, there is the casino...  and the Chanticlee and the Summer House.  So many beautiful spots!

If you need a caterer, I've used A Taste of Nantucket. Kim and her team are fabulous!! Good luck.
