Hi ladies, I'm pretty new to the area and I'm looking for a rehearsal dinner location in Winston Salem. All kinds of suggestions are welcomed! Thanks! Sarah
Some of the places that we looked at are Big Shotz, Ryan's, Riverbirch Lodge, Village Tavern, Foothills, Old Salem Tavern, Deacon Tower. I think Ryan's is the most expensive with Village Tavern up there as well and Foothills is probably the least expensive. One thing that is nice about VT is that they have an outdoor patio and I believe sometimes you can rent the patio and have an event out there under their tent. I know about most of the restaurants from eating there but my FMIL is handling all of the RD stuff so I don't know a whole lot about their event abilities. Let me know if you have questions and maybe I'll be able to help!

We are having ours (~30 people) at Firebirds, off of Hanes Mall. Blvd. It is ~$30-35 for salad, entree (including prime rib), sides, and dessert and I think it has a good atmosphere. I don't think I would at all put Village Tavern up there with Ryans, Ryans is more expensive than Firebirds ($25-30 entree) while most of Village Tavern is $15-20. I don't know what their group situations are like though. FI and I go to VT pretty often for our date night and are going to Ryan's for the first time on Valentines (had a groupon $25 for $50 of food- yay!).
If you want more low-key let me know and I can offer some good suggestions there ;-).
We had our Christmas Company Dinner at BigShots on Stratford this year. The experience was awful, I don't reccomend it for any type of party larger than 4 people!
We're probably having ours at Mi Pueblo...margarita's for all
There's a really cute nice restaurant in Clemmon's called Cherries. All their food is fresh and their menu changes every day. Their only open for lunch but will open for dinner for thing's like rehearsal dinners. They're REALLY good, and local. Their meals during the day cost about $10 ish, not sure how much a rehearsal dinner would be.
We're having ours at Brookstown Inn, but I have heard of many other places that will host them.
Honestly, I think the best way to get ideas is to go to the local newspaper (http://www.journalnow.com) and read through the Celebrations articles, and see where each couple had their rehearsal dinner (or whatever vendor you may be looking for at the moment!!)

Can I ask what was so bad about Big Shotz? We were considering that for our RD

We had set up the dinner more than a month in advance for around 15 - 20 people. When we got there they had stuck in the back "glass" room, which was alright...excpet it was 20* outside and all the heat they had in the room was a stand heater in the corner. (veryyyy cold)
They had tables set up in there like they would if it were a normal dining night with 5 different families, we had to move our tables around in order to set more "banquet style" rather than 5 different places. No one offered to help us move.
We were only given one waitress (...which she did the best she could), but with 15+people one waitress isnt' enough.
Most of the food came out quite burnt or cold, either or. My fiance's meatloaf was completley burnt on the bottom, as was the steaks and even the cheeseburger one of the children ordered.
For all the pre-planning that went into the meal we were REALLY dissapointed with how it all went down. We have a Christmas dinner every year, generally at a different place. Last year we did Firebirds on Hanes Mall Blvd. It went wonderfully (though a bit pricey). The year before we did the Chophouse in downtown W/S (again it was good, though pricey).
If you like the menu and prices that Big Shotz offers, you may want to check out the Big Shotz in Clemmons/Lewisville.
The person in charge there is a woman named Betty Ashby (I think) and she actually does all the catering now for weddings at Salem Glen CC, so they may be better suited to set up a RD like you'd want.
Not sure, but it might be worth a shot (no pun intended)
Thanks! The one in Winston is probably a better location because we have some older folks coming that won't want to drive far and will want to get to bed early. old people
Also, my main concern with what happened to casey (thanks for the response, btw!!) is the quality of the food. In speaking with them, my FMIL has said that we would only fit in their larger room on the side so that wouldn't be an issue, plus it will be June so the glass room would be fine. We're also looking for a fixed menu so hopefully they wouldn't mess that food up! That's frustrating that you had a bad experience there, I've eaten there a few times and it was delicious!

Also, are there any non-chain local places that are good? I would love to introduce folks to some of the local flavors.
