Advice for Storing Wedding Dress for 1 Year?

I bought and ordered my wedding dress earlier this week and I was shocked when they said it would be delivered in about a month!

The wedding isn't until May 19, 2012 so I was wondering how I can store it safely for the next year. It's a simple one-shouldered chiffon gown so space isn't an issue. I'm more worried about protecting the fabric from yellowing or getting that stored-in-a-closet-for-a-while smell.

The dress shop won't store it for obvious space reasons. I'm not against spending about $100 or so to have it professionally held but I don't even know who would do that. Ideally,'d like to just put it in a garment bag in our guest room closet but again, that closet smell is the last thing I want to deal with this time next year.

Any advice?

We are getting married in August, and by the time the wedding is here, I will have had my gown for 10 months. I have just kept it in a garment bag but hanging out of the closet on a hook on a wall. Its been fine, and hasn't turned colors or picked up any smells. I'm sure it will be fine. Good Luck!

I had mine for 11 months and it was fine.  I did get it cleaned and steamed before the wedding because it got dirty from my bridal portraits, but other than that just keeping it in the bag was no problem for mine.

Ditto the others.  I had mine in the closet for 9 months pre-wedding, after steaming, it was fine.

Oh good! I also just bought my dress and when the woman told me that it would be here in August I realized that I would be holding on to my wedding dress for 14 months. (Didn't mean to buy it so early, but last weekend was the only time I would have my sister and FSIL here until the wedding.) 

I'm planning to keep it in the guest room closet with a few damp rid things and take it out from time to time for air.

I'm a little concerned as well we were suppose to get married last June, but now the wedding isn't until Oct 2012. My dress has been In the garment bag hanging in the closet since last year.
