new Knottie!

Hi all! I just got engaged today! We live in Lansing, but kind of hate it here. We LOVE GR! So, we're thinking of having our wedding in GR. We're looking at a budget of 20,000 to 25,000 ish. Do you have any ceremony and reception ideas? We really like simple, countryish, but romantic and stylish too. Planning on doing some DIY, but definitely not all. Any ideas or help would be appreciated! Thanks ladies!

Congrats! What is a guesstimate of the guests you'll be having.  The Thornapple in Ada is lovely but small-ish.  Very close to GR and it would be a great local for pics.  Other reception sites, Top of The Bob, Eve in The Bob, and my choice:  The Hilton.

we're guessing about 200 The Bob is so fun looking! I think the top of the bob would be beautiful. Anyone know the prices for rental and an idea of menu pricing? The thornapple website is not super helpful. There's hardly any pictures. Is it water front? It looks like something we'd be interested in, but hard to tell. We have looked at the Hilton website, could you give me a price estimate on what a reception there costs. Thanks! We're so excited. I'm dress shopping on Friday w/my sister! yay!

The Top of the Bob and the Hilton's prices are comparable but I liked the choices and flexibility of the Hilton better.  Also, parking was a major concern for me as it's in a downtown area.  The Thornapple is not really water front.  There might be a creek but it's very near the Grand River.  I recall that their menu looked great.  I'm not sure they can fit 200 inside though.  The Knot (i think) has a real wedding from our area which featured the thornapple so look at those real wedding pics.  where are you going dress shopping?  I went to Cutlerville bridal and Bridal elegance.  Both were very nice.  Cutlerville had better service but I found my dress at Bridal Elegance.  Good luck!

If you are looking for alternatives to country clubs and golf clubs there are a lot of neat options in GR.  Check out www.mosaicspace.com for one.  You can also rent Rosa Parks Circle (get info through city website), St. George Banquet and Conference Center, St. Cecilia's music center, The Public Museum, Women's City Club.  Felt Mansion in Holland looks pretty amazing too.  I just got engaged a few weeks ago and have spent a lot of time searching and asking about what is out there, so maybe some of those will help!
