Question about Cupcakes

We are having cupcakes instead of a tiered cake, except we'll have a little one for cake cutting pictures. It's saving us about $200. I'd like to have the cupcakes out on display at the start of the reception, but I think our families are classy enough to know they have to wait until after dinner to get one...at least after pictures. LOL Sad but true. 

Also I'd really just like to have people go pick which flavor they want, but I am quite sure those same people will take an arm full.

What do I do?

    Not sure what to say about keeping family away from the cupcakes ahead of time (maybe a cute sign in a picture frame...."sweets are sweeter after dinner" -- ok -- that's lame...but you get the point...haha)

    As for the flavors -- I know FI and I are planning on ordering probably 2 per person...we'll have left overs -- and it may not save you as much money, but it IS something you have to plan for...and I'd rather too many than not enough...

    I am also doing cupcakes, but planning on only 1 per person.
