I've never ever heard of him and I researched a LOT of photographers. I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing, though...

Never heard of that one. A google search reveals a guy who is more interested in marketing books than doing actual photography. I don't know if its the same guy. Without seeing a portfolio, I would be nervous.
