I love the whole "backyard BBQ" theme - burgers and hot dogs, pasta salad, fruit salad, potato salad - the whole shebang. It's great for summer, even if it's eaten indoors. :)

I've posted on other boards as well, but we're having a pasta & salad bar.  Pasta is very inexpensive!  We are doing 2 types of pasta plus rice, 3 types of sauces: traditional red sauce, alfredo sauce, swedish meatball sauce (GFS); 3 types of meat diced chicken & meatballs (both  from GFS) and maybe shrimp.  We are also looking to serve breadsticks and/or garlic bread as well as all the fixin's for a salad  bar.  We should easily be able to do this for less than $500 for 200 people.

We decided to do different bar stations as well (pasta, salad, drink, and I'm not sure what else yet). Not sure how we're doing it yet, but it'll work out. Good luck with your wedding!

I'm not sure where you're located, but Maggie's Catering in Kalamazoo has an "outdoor grill" option for $9.75/person. They show up with the grill and people to do the grilling. You get a choice of two meats, some salads (side salad, macaroni salad, potato salad, etc), and they provide the plates and such. They have a pretty extensive delivery area too.

I second the GFS recommendation if the reception venue has a kitchen. Sam's Club has some really great inexpensive party platters for hors d'ouevres if you know someone with a membership.

What Venue are you going with? I am having the hardest time finding one that allows for me to bring in my own catering.

I would like to know what venue you are considering as well as I am also having trouble finding some place that lets me bring in my food that is non-catered.
