Any advice for a first time tanner?

Hello, ladies!

Let me give a little background about me. I'm a very pale redhead who doesnt tan well at all. Seriously, when I've tried to get some sun my skin color goes from white to a nice shade of lobster. So when I tried on my wedding dress a couple weeks ago I noticed that those nasty blue veins were quite noticeable on my chest.
Now I'm considering doing just a little spray tanning just for my face, arms, chest and back. I've never done this before, nor have I ever even been to a tanning salon. I'm asking for some advice for a novice spray tanner. I dont want to be bronze, just a little more color than Snow White.
Any advice helps. Thank you!

  • Well I've spray tanned for a couple of dances and its nice. But-- there is a little awkward stage afterwards like a week after where you may get a little patchy from the color basically wearing off.  I've only ever done a spray tan where a person physically sprays me. I've never done a booth. My advice would be to have an actual person do it and not a spray tan booth, but its just because it is what I'm most comfortable with! ha
  • I've done the booth before and it was great. They even give you complete instructions in the booth on how to do it and how to tan. I've done the mystic tan at planet tan and it was so easy. The machine even talks to you and tells you when to turn as well. I thought it was worth it for sure.

  • Oh and also - if you just tell the person at the salon what color you want to be, they can set the machine up or tell you what level to put it on so you're not too dark.

  • I love spray tans....just really check yourself out afterwards and make sure there are not any weird splotchy places...also apply the lotion on your hands and feet...don't want to be orange!!

  • I agree with the airbrush tanning.  I have gotten it done numerous times and it lasts about a week.  My suggestion would be to do it at least 2 days before the wedding.  You normally cannot shower for 8 hours after the spray and then after your first shower it tames down a bit.  I always have gotten compliments on it!  In other weddings I was in, I got it done on Thurs for a Sat wedding and it looked great! Not too dark but just the right amount of color...Oh and exfoliate as much as you can before you go!  It helps it look more even :)  Hope this helps!

  • Besides the same thing as pp have mentioned, the only advice I have to offer is be weary bc when I've tanned in the booth with a fairly expensive upgraded spray tan, I've had some of it wear off on my bra. Just make sure you ask to make sure it doesn't wear off on your dress? Good luck :)
