March 2012 Weddings

What is...

your something borrowed? It is truly the only one I am struggling with!

Re: What is...

  • I don't have an answer because I am in the exact same boat. I don't have a something borrowed. JP's mom originally wanted me to wear her veil. At the time I wasn't planning on wearing a veil. I forgot about it and once I decided to wear one made plans with my seamstress for her to custom make one for me. Even had I not forgotten, I didn't like her veil anyway. I need a something borrowed too! :(

  • I don't really have anything borrowed either... Honestly, I gave my grandma the necklace I was going to wear for the wedding and I may just use that as my something borrowed lol

  • I struggled with mine for a long time, too. I finally asked FIs mother if she had any jewelry from FIs Oma, who passed away in April. She is letting me borrow one of Oma's rings that is gold with blue sapphires. It's beautiful, and a sweet reminder of Oma.

    Some ideas:
    Rings
    bracelets
    hair clips/tiaras/headbands
    Garter
Something to carry around your bouquet

    Good luck ladies :)

So funny you mentioned this today!!! My parents visited us last night and we did a ton of wedding shopping today.  I brought up that I wasn't sure what I was going to do for something borrowed and my mom mentioned using her garter....... we'll see... seems a little odd to me (mainly because it's my mom) but I don't have any other options yet!

  • My sister just got married in November, and her wedding ceremony was really sweet. So my something borrowed is her wedding vows (slightly edited, with her permission).

  • I'm borrowing my great-grandmother's pearls, OR my mom's diamond necklace. Haven't decided yet, but one of those necklaces will be my something borrowed.

  • I don't have anything yet, because my mom gave her little sister the only ring/jewelery she had of her mom (she passed when my mom was 17). I have a tin of my father's mother that I took right before my dad passed away so I may look in there. She was catholic and I'm not, but I still like her crosses. I may have a rosary of hers put somewhere since she and my father were from New Orleans and that's where we're getting married. Or maybe it's something old? lol.

  • I'm torn by this one, too. My mom doesn't wear much jewelry. I don't have any aunts. That leaves my sister-in-law to ask or my other friend that is a bridesmaid. I don't even know what to ask to borrow...
  • lol this may sound silly but it's practical.  I'm borrowing my SIL crinoline slip.  I'm not really borrowing it to have something borrowed.  She just happens to have one and I can save about 60 bucks by just borrowing hers.  It's a win win situation :)  My something old is what I'm having a hard time finding.  I wonder if I count as something old since I am 31 lol.
  • I'm not sure yet but I MAY borrow FSIL's veil. I'm going to try it on with my dress and see. If not that, I'll be lost.

  • My veil. It belongs to one of my BM. She got married in 2007, I was her MOH, and when FI and I got engaged she told me I could use it! I am so glad since they are kind of pricey.

  • Yikes...I still have no clue! I really need to get on the ball...

    I don't have a something old either...

I was going to wear my promise ring on my right hand that my FI gave me 10 years ago as my something blue (it is a sapphire ring)...can that count as old too?

  • I have no idea about this one...I've got all the others but this one is completely stumping me.  I don't have any siblings and my mom doesn't really wear jewelery.  I'm kinda hoping that my FSIL will have some earrings or a necklace or something.
  • My something borrowed is a few things..
I am borrowing my best friends shoes (she wore them her wedding day)  They are barely worn and beautiful so I figured it was way better than spending the money on my own shoes ( I know I will only wear once!)  I did get peacock feather shoe slips to add to them too :)
I am wearing my cousin's veil and my sister's flowers for my hair! A little bit of borrowed from 3 of my BM's...

  • I am borrowing earrings from my BM. I was going to borrow sapphire earrings from my mom, but all my jewelry is emerald and you're supposed to be borrowing the persons luck in marriage and my mom didn't have a happy one.
I just asked FFIL for a picture of FI's Grandma & Grandpa (they're the great love story of the family) who have both passed. To either pin inisde my dress or tuck into my bouquet for my something old since that is supposed to be the one that ties you to family.
Not sure on my something blue yet though...
