Awkward "Lady" Question

So, I'm 16 days out, and I just realized something awful...I'm probably going to be on my period on my Wedding Day! Has anyone been through this? Any suggestions? :( I can just imagine something horrible happening!

Re: Awkward "Lady" Question

  • AWWW MAN!! Nope, I scheduled our wedding date and honeymoon before this happens to me.
  • If you're on the pill, you can just skip your off week and keep taking your pill until after the wedding
  • I definitely counted my weeks to make sure I am not going to be on it. I agree with Harmony... just skip your placebo week and start the next pack. I currently take three months of active pills and one of placebo and it works fine.

This is what I am doing.  I've done it a couple of times due to vacations, etc. and never had any issues.

This! It was even one of the reasons I requested that we take two weeks off before going on our HM.  Definitely don't want to deal with bloating, migraines, or obviously the most obvious fear of it showing up where it's not supposed to be :(

If you're not already on the pill, and aren't against it, I'd say get on it ASAP... Totally worth knowing your hormones will be in check and you won't get a surprise early period.

EDIT: Just re-read that you have 16 days.. maybe too late to get on the pill if you're not already! lol

  • I personally wouldn't skip a week on your birth control pills, messing with hormone's isn't the best idea - then again I had horrible side affects from BC and now refuse to ever use it. I would just let nature run it's course - is it going to suck? Yeah probably - but I would just drink a TON of water to prevent bloat, I would take some midol and a few pieces of dark chocolate with you on your day. Avoid salt as well.
Worst case - that it does show up - just hop in the shower or put a towel down. Or, wait until it's over.
I'm really sorry your dealing with this, mine is scheduled to show up about 3-4 days after the wedding. Positive thoughts going your way.

This! I stayed on my pill for one extra week to make sure I had it before the wedding... but then I'll be on it the week after instead. Which works out well because I won't be on it for the HM (2 weeks after the wedding) and I'm actually going off the pill then anyway... HM baby?!

And I've done this plenty of times before for vacations and stuff, so it doesn't hurt to go an extra week or two.

  • Thanks for the input guys! I think I'm gonna just skip the placebos!
  • Yup just skip and adjust your pills accordingly.  This is what I will be doing.  I'm actually going to have to skip 2 weeks and take them that way it misses the wedding and the HM two weeks later!  I've talked to my doc and she said it's fine.  She was the one who even suggested it so I'm not worried.
  • skipping the placebo week is fine (no one even takes those pills, they're just sugar pills)...but i think you need to start more than a month out.  i did this once and had my period for 3 weeks straight, sooo opposite effect!
  • I'm on the 3 month seasonique pills and I never take the placebos at the end. My doc says it's fine because my period always shows up before it's time to take those pills anyways (thankfully it was last week..so I won't have another for at least 2 months) I usually just go off the pill for 3 or 4 days and then get back on like my doctor suggested I do.

Also - you could go off your pill for a few days to start now and then you don't have to worry about it after. If I forget to take one, it usually starts on it's own the next day so I take them like clockwork to prevent it. Just an idea.

  • I also take the 3 month kind. But skipping the last week is no big deal. I am lucky enough to where I am on my last week of pills now so I just missed having to deal with it on the wedding and HM.

  • I checked with my doctor and she said it was safe to skip the week and start the next pack. I also did this a few years ago when backpacking across Europe, and didn't have any problems.
  • Yup, agree with everyone else. When I was low in iron, my dr even suggested missing the placebo pills 2 months out of every three. I definitely am going to!

  • Totally agree with everyone here! I had issues with severe migranes about three years ago and my doctor suggested that I skip the placebos in my birth control packs. I have been doing this for 3 years now with no periods and my doctor has repeatedly told me this is totally okay and it is not harmful to not have a period...and I have not have a migraine since!

    Just skip the placebos!!!

I guess we're just unlucky. This is what happens whenever I tried to do this too. I also was put on continous BC because of migraines, but I've been spotting for 6 months straight now. This doesn't work for everyone, so I'd be worried to do it right before my wedding. For me, it puts it off for a few days, and then it's nonstop bleeding for weeks.
