Wife Chop

So I know this has been mentioned before but I want to see statistics! Who is getting married and then getting the wife chop and losing your hair??

Re: Wife Chop

  • I REALLY want to chop it all off, but FI really doesn't like pictures of me from when I used to have my hair really short. I'll probably cut it back up to around my chin (which would be about 8.5 inches off my hair right now)

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • I don't like calling it the wife chop!
For many years now I have alternated between wearing it about chin length and letting it grow out.  It was around shoulder length when we got engaged and I would have cut it last summer if I hadn't wanted to let it grow out for the wedding... cutting it would have limited my styling options.
I plan on cutting it about chin length (think Quinn from Glee) and changing the color up some after the wedding... more because I like changing up my hair than for any other reason.  It'll be sassy :)
  • I'm totally chopping my hair off after the wedding.  When FI proposed it was pretty short.  I had an inverted bob (shorter in back longer in front) and I loved it and so did everyone else.  Since then I've been growing it out so I can have an up-do for the wedding.  So after the wedding it's getting chopped.  Plus it's so much easier to manage and it will be cooler for our HM in Florida two weeks later :)
  • Lol, I have never heard of this before! However, I had my hair really short about 3 years ago and I couldn't WAIT for it to grow back out. My hair is realllllly thick. I did like how easy it was to manage, though. :/

I'm totally getting the Wife Chop. I have always had really long hair, it's the longest its been in years - most of the time it was about 2 inches past my bra closure on my back - but now its like 4 inches above my jeans. I've always wanted to cut it but I was always too scared. So.. I'm cutting it - literally the day after the wedding. It'll be new and fun and exciting for me. FI likes my long hair, but I don't plan on going above my shoulders. It's just too long to do anything with anymore.

  • I am so ready to get my hair cut! I can't stand it anymore. It is just past my shoulders which isn't all that long for a lot of people but for me it is. I fully plan on making an appointment for 3/16 to get at least 3-4 inches cut off. Plus it has been the same style for awhile now and I am ready for something new. I may just go in and let my style do whatever with it.

  • I plan on getting mine trimmed.. maybe a few inches like 2 - 4. I don't consider it a chop though since it's so long...

  • I am keeping mine. First off FI hates short hair. (one day he will just have to get over it) but really I've been growing mine out for the wedding and it has been growing at a snails pace. Literally. Its agonizing. So now that it is finally getting some length I want to keep it like that for a while until I get bored and cut it off. I never go higher than like an inch above my shoulders though.

FI's worst fear isn't the wife chop its the dreaded BABY CHOP!!! He says everytime a woman becomes a mom she instantly chops off all her hair. And literally I've found it to be so true. Its a goal of mine not to fall into that category. My hair takes 10 mins to style as it is so I don't feel like that should be too much work with a baby.
  • I am cutting my hair about 3+ inches after the wedding - but I will be going back to the length I normally keep it at.  I only grew it out so I would have more options for my hair style on the wedding day.  The current length is driving me crazy!!
  • I'm keeping mine....FI loves it..plus, I've done the short hair thing..not really me...but I know my stylist is looking forward to playing with the colors a little bit and giving my hair a different style..right now it's long w/ long layers...:)

I'm counting down the days until I can cut it. I loved my old hairstyle, similar to the Quinn cut in Glee, but I've been growing it out for the wedding. I can just make a ponytail now. At least the front and back are now the same length again.

Honestly, I'm tempted to go cut it this weekend, I'm so sick of longer hair (just past my shoulders). I look terrible, and have job interviews coming up between now and the wedding.
  • Right now I can't stand my hair.  It's longer than it's been in 10 years.  It's coming off the day after the wedding.

I totally agree with this!!! Both of FI's sisters and his mom cut off all their hair a few years ago and only one looks good with it (she has thicker hair)... Luckily the short bob didn't last long on the other two because I think they both look better with shoulder length-ish hair.  I'm the same way.... my hair is thin and I just dont' pull off short hair very well! :(  I'm definitely ready to take off a few inches but I've worked hard to grow out my hair too!

  • LOL when I first saw this thread I thought it was for a new reality TV show :)

But NO! I've had my hair really long for gosh the last 7 years or so.  I've never looked good with short hair my face is way to round...

  • I just had someone ask me if I was 21 yet yesterday and they were amazed (wide eyed and all) when I told them how old I really was.  Yeah... SOOOOOOO not cutting off my hair!  I like people thinking I'm 20!

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

  • I know I'll trim it a lot shorter than it has been - it's arm-pit length right now and I usually have it just below my shoulders.  I don't plan on getting it cut very short but probably 4 inches at least.

  • I'm definitely keeping my hair. I looove long hair. I haven't had short hair since maybe 4th grade? I don't think I'd be able to pull it off. However, it grows at tremendous speed. Every time I get my hair done, which is about every 6 weeks, I have her cut 1-2 inches off and yet it seems like it continues to get longer and longer. I usually wear my hair straight down and it's about half way down my back. When I curl it, it's much shorter. So, on the wedding day I'll be wearing extensions to help keep the length and give it the fuller look. :)

  • My hair is pretty short already so I"m not cutting it. I tried to grow it out some for the wedding but it grows sooooooooo slow that I haven't had a ton of success. I'm just going to wear extensions for the wedding day so I can have an updo. I'm definitely planning to dye it red, though, and I can't wait!!!
