Ladies Who Booked Cruises for Your HM!

I've been keeping my eye out on cruise prices over the past month and I've been seeing some huuuuuuuuge drops in price.  Like $500 drops almost overnight.  Our wedding cruise just dropped so low we were able to get an almost-free upgrade from an oceanview to a balcony.  My parents got a free upgrade from their deluxe balcony to a superior balcony.  And someone else on a cruise board I read just said they got an upgrade from a balcony to a junior suite for just $40!

A lot of the cruises operated by Carnival Corp (Carnival, Princess, and Costa) especially have dropped even more dramatically (probably because of that tragedy in Italy, sadly).  If you have already booked a Carnival cruise check your prices and if you see a drop in your room rate call them and see if you can either upgrade for free/cheap or get the difference in OBC!  I know Carnival used to do the OBC thing, but that was last year.  Not sure if they still do, but it's always good to ask and see what you get!

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

  • Thanks for posting this. We booked with Carnival for our HM, I will check this out today.

  • We're also booked on Carnival and I've been watching the prices, I think the rates will drop when we're within a month of our sailing. We've already got a premium balcony because I was able to get a past guest upgrade, but I'd love to book us into a suite and surprise FH if we can afford it!
  • We're booked on Carnival. I'm going to look into this.

  • We're not going on a cruise for HM, but now I'm thinking we should book one for the summer (if prices continue like this for a while).  What happened in Italy doesn't make me more afraid of cruises.  If anything, the Captains are going to be extremely more cautious right now because of what happened.  I would feel perfectly safe :)
  • We actually are getting ready to book with Carnival - the gentleman who we talked to advised us to wait a week, and it saved us over $800. Not to mention, they started a program for honeymoons, where you get an additional 10% off your cruise and extra little things. Pretty excited, it's ended up being less than half of the cost for us than when we started looking at honeymoons for just a regular visit to an island or what have you.

I've never been on a cruise before, what kind of excursions do you think are worth it? Any advice/suggestions on what to pass on and what is awesome to do?

I'm not sure what exactly its called, the guy who called me from Carnival because we were looking online at cruises, said that they have a program they just started (this was like 3 weeks- 4 weeks ago) that you get the lowest price at that time and 10% off for it being your honeymoon.
I've been told that they put like chocolate covered strawberries in your room and some special little things as well. They don't tell you that out right, I was just told by others who booked with them that they mentioned it was for their honeymoon and they were given stuff like that.

I would just call them up and tell them that you were told that they have a honeymoon program where you get 10% off and a surprise in your room.

Can you tell me how you spoke to or what number you called because they just told me that no such thing exists.

For new cruisers, I recommend researching excursions before you go.  I've booked very similar excursions with local people right off the boat.. not only were they great but they cost SO much less... the cruiselines inflate the prices by at least 25%.  However, if you have something VERY SPECIFIC, you should probably just book it through the cruiseline to be sure you fit in the group.

  • The cruise we want to go on for our honeymoon just dropped $100/pp (balcony categories) this morning.  That's after another $100 drop in the past month.  Carnival must really be hurting!  And thanks PP for pointing out the honeymoon deal!  I've never heard of that but will definitely call on that.  I have a bit of a sore spot when it comes to Carnival since they canceled THREE of our cruises last year, but then they gave us 25% off a future cruise and I'm too frugal to let that go unused!  If I can get another 10% of that?  SCORE!  Maybe we'll get a suite.  :)

  • Does anyone know if Carnival will for sure give you money back, or a credit or an upgrade if their rates were raised from when you booked?

We booked our cruise and it looks like rates have gone down about $100 per person. I'd like to know if anyone else got this from them before I call and get all exasperated.

<div>They'll usually only do this if you booked with one of their early saver/price protection rates, but I'd call and ask... the worst thing they can say is no</div>
