Bucket List for you and your Fiance :-)

Hi Knotties!

So I saw a post similiar to this on a nest board, and thought it might be cool to do on here :-) My apologies in advance if it's already been done...

Ok, so do you and your FI have a list of things that you want to do together in your lifetime? Like a bucket list for both of you to do together?

Here are some of the ones that my FI and I have:

- Backpack through the rockies (although the FI would add the entire Appalachian Trail too)
- Become conversational in German
- Scuba Dive
- white water raft together
- Travel everywhere (and I do mean everywhere, traveling is our thing. I think we are up to 25 countries right now on our list lol) Top must sees: India, Japan, Prince Edward Island, Jordan, Israel, Egypt, & Greece
- Get married :-)

Yep! We have one. I made my own when I was like 17, and DH made one after he saw the movie, with my prodding of course. We just want to help the other do what is on his or her list, and for the most part that means we'll do it together! We flip flop with who gets to go on the vacation they want, so I got to check off Brazil then he got to check off our honeymoon in Hawaii..... I think it will take me a while to get him to Vietnam with me, but his theory is, if it's on the list, it must be done.... :)

     Happy checking!!

Neat! We don't have an official list together but some of the things we hope to do in our lifetime

-Eventually relocate to Chicago (we adore it there)
-Drive across the Seven Mile Bridge to the Keys
-Read the same book to have something to discuss lol (we have such different tastes in literature)
-Travel, travel, travel!!! We have dozens of countries on our list although I'm like AP as I'm going to have somewhat of a difficult time getting DH to Southeast Asia where I am dying to go :)

AP- I think it's awesome how you combine your lists like that... And I agree, if it's on the list now, he has to go :-) What parts of Vietnam do you want to explore?

Phillychica- I am definitely going to have to explore your blog now! I don't usually find someone who is as passionate about traveling as you are. I am in my mid-20s and have managed to see 21 countries so far (some of them a few times). My fiance and I have issues sometimes picking which countries we want to see since I want to explore new countries (I haven't made it to Africa or South America yet) but he has never visited some of the countries that I have, or he just wants to explore the ones he has seen again (Germany & Scotland). Quite a dilemna lol

We have the same exact dilemma, although not too bad a dilemma to be in. We're doing the compromise/take turns route like AP is. Where in Asia have you been to?

    Cool!

We don't have a bucket list but I think maybe after the wedding we will make one!  Both of us have a few things we do want to do and they are mostly travel related - see Macchu Picchu, Visit every continent but Antartica (I've only been to 2, will hit my 3rd in May!).

sari - wow you are well traveled!!  FI and I also love to travel and want to travel more, but unfortunately my PhD program is preventing a lot of that.  Fi is better traveled than me, so we have repeated some countries he's seen and we actually found it to be great - he's already a built-in tour guide for me.

AP/Phlly - FI also has no use for southeast asia...but hopefully I can convince him to go someday!

Haha, agreed. It's not a bad dilemma at all. I went to China, Japan, and South Korea when I was young, so a longggg time ago. So long ago that Hong Kong was still belonged to Britian :-D Going back to Japan is on the top of my list. I want to see Tokyo and Kyoto, but I also really want to go to the country as well to see temples and hot springs.

Yeah I have taken every opportunity I can to travel.... I went with my parents when I young, but I also went with school groups during college. Now, my fiance and I save up travel points (Delta and Marriott) and we have managed 2 virtually free vacations to Europe. We'll also get most of the honeymoon paid for. Once the points run out though we will prob be forever broke from traveling... You should take a big trip after your Ph.D. as a congrats to yourself! What field is your Ph.D. going to be in?

Japan is VERY high on my list, and it's a possible honeymoon destination.  I have more desire to see the countryside/hotsprings and Kyoto than Tokyo, although I would try to do it all if I could.

sari - my PhD is in infectious disease, specifically virology.  Once I escape (probably around the same time as the wedding) I am absolutely taking a big vacation.

I'm hoping points from putting wedding things on reward cards make it easy for us to get free trips too!

mdphd- I saw your post about going to Hong Kong! Congrats on the scholarship! Be sure to get all your frequent flyer miles and hotel points! Try and stay at the same kind of chain hotels if you can (Starwoods, Hilton, Marriott, etc)

I wish we could go all the way to Asia for our honeymoon (I really wanted to go to Thailand...) but its just to long of a flight if we only have a week off... I'm trying to convince my fiance to take longer off so we can go to Thailand, but we may settle on Costa Rica (which is a very nice alternative ;-)

I don't have any particular part of Vietnam that I'd like to see... I just added it to my list when my brother and I went to Thailand (HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommended, by the way) and met people who'd been to Vietnam and couldn't get over the beauty. My brother and I also did Tokyo on that trip... we had to have a layover somewhere! ;)  I've been pretty fortunate in that I've been able to check off a lot of my original, and revised, list!   My brother was also in the Peace Corps in Zambia, so I went to visit him there too. DH and I dated for 7 years in part because I was busy dreaming about and taking care of seeing those before I got married :):)   DH knows what he is in for, the priest even mentioned it during our wedding! Hopefully he'll keep his promise of some orphanage volunteer work this year in Haiti or Guatemala!

S- May I ask what you are looking for in a honeymoon?? To be truthful, the Amazon isn't really that far away and if you want something more adventurous it might be good for you!!! We went to Amazon EcoPark (just for vacation-not honeymoon) and even DH loved it. It was a good combo of adventure (for me) and nice and safe (for him!)Its definitely not a luxury resort or anything like that, but if you just want something fun, its worth looking in to!

AP- Sorry I just saw your reply today!

Well, here is our honeymoon situation- We have over 100,000 points with Marriott, and since we are paying for the wedding and everything ourselves, we would be kind of stupid not to use that for the honeymoon. As great as it is not having to pay for a hotel, it also limits us as to were we can go. We are even more limited in that we are trying to go to one of the Marriott where we could have an all-inclusive package (since we will be really broke after this wedding lol). So right now the top two choices are Aruba and Costa Rica. We would have more adventure stuff in Costa Rica, but the beaches aren't great. The only Marriott at one of the good beaches in Costa Rica isn't all inclusive (and we are talking like $10 a drink, so thats a no go). The one is Aruba is promising, but I am afraid my fiance will be bored. However, he has never seen the blue water of the caribbean, and he says he justs wants to do something relaxing and low key for our honeymoon.

Even if we don't go for our honeymoon, seeing South America and seeing Thailand are top on our bucket list. I also want to spend a few days in an over water bungaloo at some point :-)
