New obsession: Card Boxes

I'm on the fence on whether to make my own or buy :/ I am on the Etsy website, and after calculating materials...I think I'd be right around the same price range as some of the ones I'm looking into. Anybody thought about this or care to share?

Re: New obsession: Card Boxes

  • My venue provides one so I haven't looked into them, but my advice is if the price is within $5-$10 of what it would cost to make it yourself, save yourself the effort and buy a premade one!
  • I made my cardbox and I ended up spending $120 or so. Keep in mind though, a lot of the materials I bought allowed me to have extras, which I then used for additional projects. Totally worth it and I plan on selling it after the wedding, so at least I'll make some money back off of it.

I'm in the middle of making mine. I refuse to buy anything without a coupon. I bought my boxes at Joann.com with a coupon code AND through ebates so I got a little back. I got 5 boxes in a package so that gives me two extra. Then I spray painted mine instead of wrapping it or whatever. Once again I used a coupon from Michael's (if you download their app they have a coupon every day) so that cost me about two bucks. Now all I'm going to go get is ribbon and the rest of my materials will be left overs from other DIY wedding stuff. But so far it's probably cost me about 10 bucks so far, and i dont plan on spending but maybe $10 more, and I love it! I decided to make mine because I found one I love but didn't care to spend so much on it, plus I'm pretty crafty and enjoy making it.

OMG thanks so much for sharing! I'm definitely going to try that! I was thinking of doing like a wedding wrapping paper? I have tons of ribbons and pearls from when I made my arrangements. Awesome ideas, y'all!

  • I made a bird cage card box.
  • I've seen on the DIY board that some girls will take the boxes from the Post Office to use for their card boxes.  The boxes are free, but then again, maybe that's one of the reasons the post office is going broke and needs to close facilities.

I bought a mailbox that supposed to be for Christmas cards from Christmas Tree Shoppe for $4 and am going to try and make it look like the mailbox from the movie Up.  Basically, it will be spray painted white, then have our names stenciled on, with our hand prints on the side.
  • My Mom bought a nice box at like Michael's or something and is going to be putting pictures of me and my FI on them. That way once the wedding is over we will then have a box to put memorabilia in from the wedding.
