March 2012 Weddings

Q&A 1/9

I am totally bored at work today!!  So Random question for ya ladies...if you plan on having kiddies, when do you plan on going off your usual birth control methods?

I am on the pill and have just started a new pack and have one left until I have to refill....I am wondering if I should refill at all!?!  I would be starting a new pack right before the wedding.  I am thinking it may take a while for pregnancy since I have been on BC forever!!

Thoughts?

Re: Q&A 1/9

  • I went off in December and had been on it for 9 years. Fi and I will start trying right after the wedding. I have heard it can take a year for some women to regulate coming off of the pill

This!  My last pack ends March 14.  Wedding is March 24.  FI and I just talked about it and we are not refilling.

  • I will continue my packs probably through August (when I run out) then I'm not sure.  I don't want to have any kids for at least a year and a half after the wedding when FI will graduate college, but I also hate being on BC.  So I'm thinking I will go off and just use the FAM method which works pretty well for me.  Or just fill up for another year.  Sitll undecided.  :)

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

  • I have an 8 year old daughter from my first marriage. I was on the pill for 10 years. I went off of it in November and was pregnant in February. Don't be surprised if it doesn't take a year! Wink

  • We are actually not planning on kids at this point. After we get married I am going to change my birth control method to IUD and the we will reevaluate in 5 years. But it is really doubtful that we will decide to have children.

  • I will probably finish this pack and then we'll use alternative methods until we go on our honeymoon (Summer/Fall). I go to the gyno on Thursday, though, so we'll see what he says!

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • I've been off mine since Sept. due to hormonal issues so we've been using alternate methods. We are planning to start immediately after so it wasn't a big deal to stop early, my original plan was to stop this month.

Don't forget about all those women out there that get pregnant becuase they don't take their pills regularly. Miss 4 pills and you could be pregnant. People just like to freak you out.
  • At this point we don't have a clue when we will start trying to have kids. I'm still in school so the earliest we could start would be like Nov/Dec.  And because of a medicine I take I will be considered a high risk pregnancy so my gyno said when I'm ready to get off the pill she will set me up a meeting with a high risk dr to go over all the aspects of a possible pregnancy and then I  can get off the pill. So I'm completly no help but just becuase of the fact that I really don't want to get pregnant before a certain time I will probably only go off a month ahead of time.

  • FI and I will probably start TTC around early fall or late summer.  I've talked to my gyno about the pills and she told me I would be more regulated after four months of being off the pill.  I'm not sure when I will stop taking them but it will probably be around april or may.
  • I am thinking I won't get off until after summer this year. There are no grandkids in my generation yet (2 brothers and 2 sisters) and my 30 year old sister is losing weight right now so she can have a healthy pregnancy. Her goal is to be ready in October. I was going to try around the same time. I think it would be fun to go through it together if it worked out that way...and it is fun to grow up with cousins close in age!

  • I will keep taking them till I run out of this pack. Then we will go to an alternate method. We don't want kinds for about 5 or 6 years. I'm only 21 so I'm in NO HURRY. To be honest I don't even want any, but FI does one day.

  • Thanks for all the advice/input ladies!  I already have a 12 year old from a previous relationship, so we want to start soon after the wedding.  I guess it would be a good idea to stay off the pill and get myself regulated!

  • I really wanted to get off a couple of months ago, but was worried I'd end up on my period during the wedding weekend or honeymoon a week later, so we decided I'd stay on it until after the wedding. Sure enough, now that it's close enough and I've calculated the weeks left, I'm scheduled for my Aunt Flo visit the week of our honeymoon. Awesome! So, I'll manipulate the packs a little to have it the week in between my wedding and honeymoon.

That being said, I won't even finish the pack I'm on once we return from the HM. We don't plan on seriously trying until the summer, but I want to start regulating my body since I will have been on bcp for almost 8 years. I'll begin monitoring my cycles (temping, charting, the whole 9 yards) as soon as I'm off bcp. I'm hoping to be "regular" by the summer. I've already talked to my gyno and he said it takes most 2-4 months to regulate their cycle and begin ovulating. The more regular I was before bcp and even with it, the more likely I am to regulate sooner, which is great news! We're really hoping to get preggo sometime this summer. :)

  • We have agreed to wait at least a year after the wedding, and then re-visit the conversation.  If something happens before then, no problems, but we won't actively try for awhile.

I went off the pill in June of 2008 due to health issues and was told that my window of opportunity fo TTC was going to be short so I stayed off regulated, charted and TTC it took until January 2009 to get PG. DD was my first and only pregnancy, my tubes are tied. Just remember, the pill regulates hormones and everyones hormone levels and tolerence are different. Some people need time to get back to normal like me because I'm super sensitive to hormone shifts always have been. Some people don't. Good Luck all you future mommies! FX no AF during wedding week.

  • I'm getting this thing out of my arm as soon as possible after the wedding.  i"m  not sure when we are going to ttc but i don't think we are going to activley prevent it as FI hates condoms ...  We are getting old enough that if it happens it happens if it are oens't it doesn't.  we are just going to wait and see.

  • FI would be thrilled if I were already pregnant but I'm just not ready.  I'm also too afraid of getting pregnant quickly.  As of now I'm going to stay on the pill until around October then we will reassess our financial situation and see if we're (I'm) ready to start trying.
