Ladies who are still in school...

If you are changing your name, what are you doing about your school?  I've already legally changed my name through the Social Security office, but I'm  worried all of this will screw with my financial aid and grant money.  I know I don't have to tell them because CA has name usage laws (where as long as I continue to use my old name in some facet of my life it's still technically legal) but I'd really just be done with my old name altogether.

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

  • To my understanding, you just go to the registrar's office and the financial aid office to notify them of the name change. You should probably also go to the bank/organization who serves as your lender as well. I could be totally wrong, but that is what I was planning on doing.

This is what I am going to do as well.  It should not mess up your financial aid you re currently receiving, however, when you reapply for financial aid you will have to submit your husbands income as well and this will affect the amount of grants (free money) you receive.  You shouldn't have a problem getting loans still.
  • Ditto PP.  I can change it through the university by going to the registrar's office.  Then I have to notify the department of education of my name change, since my loans are directly through them.  I'm also notifying campus health directly to avoid any problems getting prescriptions, etc. due to a delay from the registrar.
  • Thanks ladies!  Good to know it's less complicated then I was making it.
