March 2012 Weddings

I really want to do something special for my parents

Any suggestions?  My parents have really went out of their way to help make mine and FI big day very special.  My parents have helped out a lot financially and my mom has made it her own special mission for me to have a better wedding than she did.  My parents were 17 when they got married in the middle of a down pour in my grandparents garage.  She (and my dad) really want me to be able to have the wedding they never did get.  I tease mom telling her she can have 25% of our wedding (decisions etc.). I think she is having more fun than me lol.  She even stepped up when my bridesmaids didn't for my bridal shower.

But back to the original question.  What should I do for them.  It doesn't even have to be part of the parents gifts.  They have an anniversary in august so it could be something for that as well.  I was thinking maybe sending them on a weekend vacation get away or maybe couples massages, etc.  Any suggestions would be great.  I just really want them to know how much I appreciate all of their help.

  • You can find some awesome weekend get aways on Groupon/Living Social. That way you can do something nice without breaking your bank. I've been keeping my eye out for that for my parents gift as well, not part of the wedding or anything, but just a gift to say thanks for everything. My mom has even volunteered to stay here for a week with our dog so we wouldnt have to worry about her.

But i think that's a great idea for them - or you could get your mom a day at the Spa and your dad a day at the Golf Course or something like that if you don't think they'd want to do a weekend getaway.

  • i have the same problem actually, and have been wondering the same thing. but i really like the whole weekend away idea. ive been looking at that as well on groupon & living social.  you can get some great weekend deals for a very good price! but if you wanted to go more of a gift route, maybe something from Things remembered? or just something that will always show your thanks and love. or if they have a hobby maybe give them something that includes your wedding (scrapbooking, pictures, etc..) just ideas :)

    good luck!!

This is exactly what I was going to suggest. I wish we could afford to do something this nice for my parents. They're helping out, but we're paying for over half the wedding and just can't spend the money on a vacation. If I could though, this would definitely be my gift for them.
