NWR: Valium and Grapefruit... an educational moment!

... apparently they don't go together!

I've been so stressed with work, wedding planning, and my mother (who is adding to the wedding planning stress) that I've been having seriously painful muscle spasms in my back.  I'm allergic to muscle relaxers, so my doctor called me in a low dose of Valium to stop the spasms.  It has the oddest warning label I've ever seen on a prescription before... 

One of my medically educated doctor friends explained to me something about the enzymes in grapefruit effecting the rate at which the meds are absorbed into your blood stream... who knew?

I'm a nursing student and I've learned there are actually way more medications out there than you think that don't go well with grapefruit!

yep, I can't have grapefruit at all because of my bc.  And I know a friend of mine that takes medicine for I think high cholesterol and she can't have grapefruit either.

I have old back injuries from a roll over car accident almost 3 years ago (I'm a walking PSA for wearing your damn seatbelt... It's the only reason I'm alive!) the Valium stopped the twitching in my back within an hour of taking it and I'm in way less pain than I would normally be in, so thank you all for your well wishes!

Most over the counter allergy medications (like Allegra) also cannot be mixed with grapefruit. I haven't had a grapefruit in over a year.
