Wedding Favors Help

So my cousin,  an amazing baker was going to make me cake pops for my wedding favors.  Unfortunately she is having issues in her personal life and we decided for her not to do the cake pops because it just would add more stress.

So now I need to find FAVORS!  I know you guys have posted some threads before but I never bothered to look at it because I was set on cake pops.

I need suggestions please!!   I really appreciate it

Re: Wedding Favors Help

  • Our theme is Mardi Gras - we are having beads with a pendant (that has our name/date/location) and then masks for people to wear if they want. Then I decided that I also wanted to do something edible so we are having a candy bar! :) There are tons of online places that you can buy bulk candy in your colors so that's what I'm gonna do. Then I'll have little bags either stamped or with a sticker with a monogram or something on it.

  • My FMIL works for Lindt so we're getting little chocolates from there & I got ivory boxes, purple ribbon, and printable tags..... All in all, it should cost me about $50 for 175.  (Helps that we're getting free chocolate!)  I say edible is the way to go!

  • We're doing a photobooth and candy bar for favors. I got a babycakes cake pop maker for my bridal shower and it's so wasy to use.  Is it possible to make your own cake pops?

  • Thanks for your suggestions!

I definitely want to do edible just because I rather people eat it then throw it away.  But everything edible is so expensive. I really want to make the cake pops myself but I know that is a crazy task to do a little bit before the wedding
  • I guess I can just try it!  I might have to look into the babycakes thanks!

It makes 12 cake pops in under 5 minutes.  Then you can put them on the sticks and dip then in chocolate and it's done in under 10 minutes.  It's not as difficult as it seems.
    I have this one. <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/crosssells/kitchendining/summerelectrics/moreelectrics/PRD~786364/Babycakes+Cake+Pops+Maker.jsp">http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/crosssells/kitchendining/summerelectrics/moreelectrics/PRD~786364/Babycakes+Cake+Pops+Maker.jsp</a>

I make my own cakeballs all the time from a cake mix and a little frosting. My family loves them and they are super easy. You can use the instructions from bakerella <-- clicky. She is the queen of cakeballs and pops. One cake mix usually makes about 4 dozen cakeballs/pops and they hold up really well in the fridge. I get my chocolate melting discs from Joann's or Walmart for pretty cheap too. It's maybe $10 - $15 for 4 dozen not including your time.

These cakeballs would be a little thicker than what you would make in the babycakes machine because they are mixed with frosting and rolled in a small ball like a truffle.

    Good Luck!

  • This is something that I can do with my bridesmaids!
    Thanks!
  • I would give the Babycakes a try since you had your heart set on cake pops.  Give it a test run  (bring them to work or something)  and let people try them!  If it is a total flop, you could do the candy buffet.  That is what we are doing :)

  • Most cake pops are not just cake in a sphere shape like the babycakes makes. Almost all that you would get from a shop/baker would have frosting or some other filling mixed in. Tips I've heard (if you decide to go it on your own) is dip the sticks in chocolate before sticking in the cake and make sure they are well chilled before attempting to dip. My sister is a cake decorator and they put theirs in the freezer first. We are having BBQ and got pocket hand sanitizers from Bath and Body to help get the smoky smell off hands as our favors.
  • my mom and i made cake pops for my shower. we made about 200 of them. and the took quite a long time to make them all. about 8 hours. but we decorated them very nicly. if this is a route you wanna take these are the trays we got from Bed Bath & beyond. (if you cant find them there, here is a link to there main page) they helped out a lot and made everything go a bit quicker.

    good luck!!!

  • We're also doing a photoboth and candy buffet for our favors. I haven't made cake pops myself, so I can't speak from personal experience, but I've heard they're super easy. So, I agree with the other girls, perhaps you can make them?
