Hello,Even if you've already booked this caterer, reading this post still may help you.I booked a caterer who works out of her church's kitchen in Grand Ledge. She was recommended by a family member and seemed very affordable, so we stuck with her despite some red flags. The first thing I'd like to warn you all about is that the caterer would not give us a contract or a written quote despite asking several times. I hired the company at least a year in advance of my wedding but the lady didn't get around to giving us the food to taste test until the week before the wedding. She was well aware that she was supposed to submit a copy of her license to my venue by a certain deadline. Despite many calls and emails (unanswered), she still missed the deadline. We were going to have a friend bartend, but she said don't worry about it because it was included in our charges. That was an outright lie. We were billed for the bartending services at a ridiculous rate - more than I make per hour as a marketing/account executive. On the day of the wedding, she served food that did not fit the description of what was agreed upon. She also made more plates than what was requested and charged me for them. We had a lot of food left over, which she donated, but never got a receipt for our taxes as requested. But those things aren't even the worst of it. On the night of the wedding, she gave my in-laws a bill for over a grand more than what we were verbally quoted and received payment from them without my knowing or my husband knowing. Caterers are supposed to bill upfront (a few days before the event) and then make adjustments later if needed. She did not do that. I asked for a refund. I got strung along for five months, with several phone calls a week and broken appointments. After she stood me up when she was supposed to give me a refund, I have given up. Now the only thing I can do to help myself feel better is to warn other brides and event planners about her!
