NWR - True Blood

Do any of you girls watch True Blood on HBO? I fell in love with the show last year during the first season and have read all of the corresponding books by Charlaine Harris. Just wanted to see if there were any others who love the show / the books, or both!

Love it so much contemplating on my revising my budget to include HBO! Just finished the first season. I believe I dig it because I dig the Twilight saga?

I did revise my budget to include HBO just for this show!  I missed the first season so I started reading the books until the DVD came out.  I just finished the 9th book and look forward to every Sunday night!  I read recently that Charlaine Harris is contracted to write at least 3 more books.  I know the next one comes out in October.  Can't wait!!For those who want the books, you can find a box set of the first 7 on Amazon for $30 with free shipping.  Is anyone else as annoyed with the MaryAnn storyline as I am??

THIS IS GREAT! I'm so glad that there are other Indiana girls who love True Blood. I reworked our budget to be able to fit in HBO too! The books are fabulous - the first one was the hardest one for me to read because I had already watched most all of season one. FYI - if you read all the books, you will become irritated with Alan Ball's (the director of the show) direction with the show. However the books are totally worth reading. There is a book being released in October "A Touch of Dead", however to the best of my knowledge it is only an anthology of Sookie short stories that were scattered among various short story books. (FYI) ARGH! The Maryann thing is SO frustrating. She is significant to the plotline in the book but she says virtually nothing (perhaps a line or two to Sookie when she attacks her); however on the show there is WAY too much of her. On a good note, I really do like Jessica and Hoyt (didn't like Jessica at all at first!). I used to get really frustrated that the show can be so different than the books but finally decided that the show is just showing more that one person's take on the various happenings in Bon Temps unlike the books that are only based on Sookie's experiences. That helped! As always - looking forward to Sunday!

I don't have HBO but have always wanted to watch this show.  Would you suggest I try reading the books first or get the dvds and start watching it?

The books are definitely better than the show, and the show is pretty enjoyable! I would recommend the books over the show though, even if you aren't much of a reader. Also, you can read the books and watch the series at the same time...once you get involved in one, you'll want to read/watch the other!

Zao - I think you may have put your finger right on what I dislike about the show and why I like the books so much more!

I feel about the same way about the show... I absolutely LOVED the books and was super excited about the show, but when I watched it I wasn't sure what to think, they changed too many things.. had I not read the books I would have loved the show,  I still like the show but not near as much as the books.
