Friend as officiant?

I'm wanting one of our close friends to be ordained online and perform our ceremony.  I called my county clerk (Tippecanoe, if it matters) to make sure this would be legal.  The only response she gave me was, "As long as your friend is recognized by the state it will be legal with us [at the clerk's office]".  My question is, where do I look/ask to find out what legal requirements are for Indiana?

I clicked around the website but couldn't find anything about marriages/weddings.  I found the official law. It states any one who is a recognized reverend, minister, priest, etc. can perform the ceremony, but I'm trying to find out where/how my friend can become recognized by the state

Yeah our friend got ordained online and he performed a wedding ceremony for someone he was really close to. I would say to possibly ask someone who is a minister or preacher where your friend could go. I think he had to take a class.

Hi!  Lurker here.  A friend of ours was ordained through Rose Ministries:  http://www.openordination.org .  We were married in Orange County and after obsessively questioning the clerk's office, they said that they do not require proof of ordination, but will investigate it if, for whatever reason, the marriage is later challenged. I don't know who does the 'challenging'.DH, Officiant, and myself are out-of-state residents, so I'm not sure if that affects anything.HTH!

Thanks for the responses!  Clay, I guess I'll have to hassle my county clerk some more, lol
