Churchessss

So guys... our church hunt hasn't been going so well! A lot of them are saying no because we're non members or because we are living together. A little secret- FI and I also got married in March when i got laid off just so I could have benefits. Luckily we did since my now job doesn't offer them (new company) but we are worried taht this will be a problem too. And then we found a few we like, but their costs are over a grand!! I don't know if that's normal or not but we're talking OVER a grand, and we cannot afford that in our budget. Any ideas at all? Most of our guests will be staying either downtown or at a hotel we are going to choose near the church (cheaper) hopefully on Michigan or Meridian on the north side. So any churches along those routes (from downtown up to 32 in Zionsville?) We prefer a more traditional church which I think is screwing us a bit :( ANY suggestions would be wonderful.

I had such a problem trying to find a church too.  That was probably my main stress at the beginning of this whole process. I just did a google search, emailed a bunch of places, and narrowed it down to a few that we went to visit.  They either didn't have the date available or wouldn't let non members get married there.  And if you're not a member, it can be pretty pricey :(Luckily, we found one that was perfect for us, and I'm so happy we're getting married there!  So all the research, hard work, and stress paid off.  Good luck! Hope you find something!

I do hope you find something!! I didn't know you're little secret. I thought about that many times (for other reasons related to wedding planning and in-law stress). Haha. Well since people are staying downtown, we are getting married at the State Capitol Building and they only charge $500! They provide the chairs, stage and a few other things if you want them. You can also rent it the night before, no charge, for your rehearsal. If you want the info, you can just let me know on my blog or here. =) I know it's not a church but think about it.

I'd start emailing or calling the churches in that area. It's common for them to charge that much for nonmembers. Usually you get more than just the church and pastor for that price tag though. We got a day of coordiator, videographer (the camera they use for service), and any candles that they had we were allowed to use also.GL!!

OK, I dont know if this is considered a "church" or not and it may be slightly farther than you want to go. But I have the info to Gothic Chapel at Crown Hill Cemetary.  (Yes, cemetary...I know but it's worth a try.)  I can email it to you if you want. For weddings, its $200/hr w/a 2 hr minimum. The address is 700 W 38th St, which isn't too far from 38th Michigan Rd.

St. Luke's United Methodist Church, at 86th and Meridian...beautiful church, great staff, plus they have the chapel which seats 350 easily or the main sanctuary which seats 1500.  The Gothic Chapel at Crown Hill is gorgeous but small...

Does denomination matter? (you didn't mention Catholic, so I'm assuming anything other than that)And it is completely normal for churches to charge more for non-members. IF you're a member, they assume that you have been tithing all year so they don't have you pay as much. The church that we just booked is $850 more than what they charge their members, so we had to pay a pretty penny to get it.
