I was recently browsing your profile because I noticed you were a South Bend bride.  I saw that you're getting your cake from Racia's.  I love her style and have only heard great things about her cakes!  I was wondering what you thought of her prices.  We haven't met up with her yet but she's one of the first places I want to look into.  I heard that her prices have gone up the past few years and I'm trying to prepare myself.  I don't want to meet up with her and fall in love with her cakes only to find that her prices are out of our budget.  Any info that you are willing to share is greatly appreciated.  Thanks!  Oh, by the way, I noticed your wedding is at the Scotish Rite.  I love that place!  We really wanted to have our wedding there too but the reception area just wasn't quite big enough.  Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Sorry to be a creeper, but in procrastinating from work I'm trolling the boards instead!  My fiance and I met with Rascia just a few weeks ago.  Her price (for buttercream--fondant may be more) is based at $3.25 per person, and then for our most basic design (we just wanted buttercream swirls and dots with a ribbon around the base) bumped us up to $3.50/person.  That was for her 'basic' flavors, which include chocolate, yellow, marble, and white.  I would assume that upgrading to other flavors might up the price.  Delivery fees to South Bend she quoted at about $40-$50. We did love her, but found the prices to be more than we wanted to spend.  I am thrilled with who we did go with though, so everything works out! :)

Thanks for the info!  I was afraid of that being the case.  Can I ask who you did decide to go with?

We are going to use Alexis with Cakewalk out of Plymouth.  I don't think I'm biased when I say her cakes tasted even better than Rascia's, and we got so many more options.  Our quote from Rascia did not include fillings either, so for 3 flavors with fillings and buttercream icing, our price is $2.60/person.  ($2.50 is base for buttercream cakes).  She has about 7 'basic' flavor choices, maybe even more--vanilla bean, yellow, pink champagne, devils food, chocolate sponge cake, etc!  There also is a $55 delivery fee to South Bend, just for your info.  She is so professional and her cakes are amazing! I have an email full of info she sent me before we met with her, so let me know if you want me to forward it onto you!  good luck!We also met with A Wing and A Prayer, Macris, and Arlenes!  The good news is there are lots of options for all price ranges up there!

Hello, futuremrssauer! My fiance and I are really in to watching the cake challenges and Duff on Charm City Cakes on the food network, so we decided we wanted something awesome for our cake. It was the big splurge for our wedding... Ours is around $4.75/person. We're having fondant, four tiers with ribbons and all kinds of details. I think the total came to just over $800... Crazy, I know. But, we really wanted a cool cake. Her flavors are awesome. I think we stuck with Chocolate, vanilla and marble. She has more elaborate flavors, and they do cost more. You can check them out on her website. Rascia has actually worked with Duff before. She has a picture of them on her wall and told us the story about him. But, I did taste Arlene's cake at a couple of bridal shows and her cake is extremely moist and the flavor is great! I really wanted to go with her, but my fiance wanted fondant. I've ordered cakes from Rascia before and she's never let me down. She's super sweet to work with as well! I can't wait to see our cake the day of the wedding! Good luck with your cake search! So, where did you decide to have your reception? We're trying to keep our guest list under 150, so the Scottish Rite worked perfectly for us. Congrats on your upcoming wedding as well! Good luck!

Wow, you girls are so helpful!  Ndirish, I would really appreciate that info sheet if you wouldn't mind forwarding it on to me!  My e-mail is agest AT iusb DOT edu.  We're planning on checking into Arlene's, Macri's, and West End Bakery.  I hadn't heard of Cakewalk before, but now I think I'll add her to my list as well!  It is nice that we have plenty of options.Gobluebh, it sounds like your cake is going to be amazing!  I look forward to seeing pictures.  We ended up with going with St. Hedwig's for the reception.  I didn't want anything to do with them at first because I was afraid it would be too hallish, but after I went there in person and saw it all decked out for a wedding, it started growing on me.  What I like most is that they have plenty of room to hold our 250 people without feeling cramped.  My FI is just happy that I agreed to a place that serves awesome polish style food.  That's all that mattered to him, haha.
