Do you drink the milk at the end of your cereal?

So I went to the kitchen to get froot loops.  Kyle says I am so wasteful for not drinking the milk after I eat my cereal.

So I thought I would ask you girls since it has been slow lately:
Do you drink the milk after you finish your cereal?  Why or why not?

Re: Do you drink the milk at the end of your cereal?

  • My FI gives me a hard time about that too! I don't drink the milk, I'm sure it tastes fine, but milk is extra calories that I don't need.  I try to put in just enough to make the cereal palatable, but I'm not going to sit down and drink what amounts to a small glass of milk.  Helllloooo cellulite city.

Exactly.  I only put enough in my bowl so that my cereal has a change to get soft enough that I don't sound like a dang horse eating it.  But I always have a little glass of milk, which is what I think he doesn't get.  Why do I have a glass of milk when there is milk in my bowl...it baffles him.
  • I almost always drink the milk out of the bowl. It's just delicious to me. My FI doesn't drink his milk, and I find that weird since he eats everything off of his plate/out of the bowl at other meals. I find drinking the milk keeps me full during the morning.

  • Plus, that milk is all sugary and tastes like the cereal.  Maybe that's backwards logic because obviously I like that cereal because I've just eaten it, but that doesn't mean I want that-cereal-flavored milk.
  • It's starting to sound like a trend of one partner does it, one doesn't.  Hmmm... only three answers so far,  but I'm not that far on my thesis, I could switch! lol.

Completely this! There's something about the milk without the cereal that I just don't like. Sometimes I'll let my cats lap up a tiny bit before I toss it so it's not COMPLETELY wasted.. haha.

And to your other comment - my FI usually does! Funny!

  • I agree.  I don't like the sugary weird taste that it has to it.  Not even when I was little and always ate cocoa puffs, I didn't want anything to do with the chocolate milk that was left at the end.

I let my kittys drink the milk too :)  They seem to like sugar milk haha.

hmm, apparently both my fiance and I do most of the time- the only exceptions being if it's like shredded wheat or something that creates a weird texture to the milk. (We don't have shredded wheat all that often, lol.)

ETA: we do drink soymilk a fair amount (I drink soymilk all the time) so I don't know if that makes a difference.

  • I didn't answer, because my answer is "other." Depends on the cereal whether I drink the milk or not and where in the box the cereal is from. I love Honeycomb milk, but if its from the bottom of the box, I won't drink it because there's all that powdery sugar stuff that makes the milk kind of lumpy lol.

  • Usually, I put on enough milk just to moisten the cereal. Even shredded wheat or weetabix  I just put enough milk on so I don't make a huge mess pushing the spoon through it ;)

I don't like the taste of the milk at the end. But, I like drinking glasses of milk. I need the extra calories, I don't eat enough. :)

H on the other hand, does drink the milk. Proved right again!

  • My answer is other.

Typically... I eat cereal dry, and have a glass of milk on the side. That way, I have the cereal and milk experience, but my cereal doesn't get soggy and I don't have to worry about cereal-flavored milk being slurped out of the bowl. This is the best way to have breakfast.

The one exception to this is method is with granola cereal, which I do eat with milk in the bowl because it is the one cereal that doesn't get soggy. In that case, I do drink the milk at the bottom of the bowl, because of the nature of granola, there is very little leftover (usually only a spoonful or two) and I just drink it.

  • I try to remove all the milk from the cereal bowl.  I also try to put in just enough milk to achieve the cereal consistency I want.  I just had frosted mini wheats and that milk is just about perfect.  I don't eat the broken particles from the bottom of the box.  That milk would be difficult, unless it was so thick it was practically cereal.

Oops.  I had "it depends" typed out as the third option, and I was like "it depends?  hm..i don't think anyone would go for that. DELETE" haha.<div>
    </div><div>But yes, lumpy milk=nasty.</div>
  • The powdery/grainy stuff at the bottom of the cereal box makes me choke, so I try to avoid that.

Not the nicest breakfast experience ;)

My grandfather taught us to put applesauce on top of our milk and cereal, so the milk that's left is extra sweet and fruity.  That's even better than the normal cereal milk.  Yes, it sounds weird, but milk on apple dumplings is normal, so cereal-sweatened applesauce milk isn't as strange as it sounds.  Well, maybe it is.

  • I havent heard that one before!
  • I don't really like milk, so I dump out the milk at the end. FI loves milk so he drinks his.

  • I drink most of the milk.  The stuff at the bottom with all the small cereal bits go to the dog.

This is me too :-) I'm not a milk drinker, didn't really grow up drinking it. FI however drinks it like crazy and we go through at least one gallon jug per week at home, thankfully we buy it in bulk :-)

  • I usually put on little enough milk that there's less than a spoonful of milk at the bottom of the bowl.  If for some reason there was more, drinking it would depend what the cereal was.
