Okay, so in all fairness to the cop, it was totally my fault, but I still need a place to spill so I can keep from crying.
Okay, last year, I got a speeding ticket and signed it and sent it back within a week. So about two months later I hadn't received anything from my ticket or my fine or anything. So I called and apparently the woman I called was having a bad day and when I asked her what the status of my ticket was, she told me that it was still processing. I had never had a ticket so I didn't know how long it would take.
Well a couple months later, (the ticket had slipped my mind) after I had met FI, I got pulled over for a bad inspection, which was three days out and had completely slipped my mind. The cop took my info and came back and said, "Do you know your license is suspended?" I about died! I had no idea. He went easy on me, but he gave me a ticket for the inspection and for driving with a suspended license. I was thankful because he could have arrested me. When I called the court again to ask why I never got a letter or an amount to pay, the woman responded they had no record of the ticket. When I signed the ticket and sent it, I sent it to the city court instead of the town court and the first women I spoke to didn't even mention it, which leads me to believe she just felt like being a bitch and never even looked it up.
Flash to today, my license is still suspended because I got laid off shortly after I got the second tickets and my unemployment doesn't pay much. FI is trying to help me pay it off, but all my fines together add up to quite a bit. I was at my friend's house a few hours away for a week. She was bringing me home and I could tell she was getting tired. So instead of making her take me another 40 minutes to my house, I had her drop me off with FI because he only had an hour of work left and would take me home after. While I was waiting, I knew he needed gas, so I hopped in the truck and drove 5 minutes to the gas station. Stupid move. I have driven a few times since I found out I had been suspended, but never at night. After I was done getting gas, I was just going to swing around the corner to the store and get something to drink. I forgot to turn the lights on for the whole of 30 feet to the store and a cop pulled me over for no headlights on.
I was pretty mellow at first. Then I began panicking. I didn't want to get arrested, because both of my older brothers have been (moving a picnic table from private property and underage drinking) and my parents said they will not bail a third kid out. Then I started freaking out and in my head I'm screaming, "I DON'T CARE IF YOU ARREST ME, BUT DON'T TAKE HIS TRUCK!!!" He even got out and moved stuff over in his backseat like he was going to be adding a passenger. Then he gave me a ticket for driving on a suspended license and told me I could take the truck back to him at work, with the lights on.
I was so happy! Then I remembered I had to tell FI. He was incredibly cool about it. He wasn't even mad. He said he probably would have been ticked if his truck had been impounded, but it wasn't a big deal since he's gotten tickets too. (not that bad though)
So yes, I know it was irresponsible and stupid. I just am ticked at myself because I was wearing a seatbelt, used turn signals, and was definitely NOT speeding. That stupid f***ing light switch. So please don't bash on me too hard because I already know that was the dumbest thing to do... Just had to share with someone.
