Workout Goals!

I am recently engaged to a wonderful man who tells me I am beautiful every day and treats me like a princess... however, I'm not 100% happy with the way I look, and I'm especially unhappy with the way I look in a wedding dress. Starting now I'm deciding to change what makes me unhappy... I want to look as good as he makes me feel. So, it's time to set some goals and make stuff happen!

I want to lose 80 lbs by my wedding (next September) but for now I will start out small.

My engagement pictures are scheduled for Sept. 15th, I want to lose 20 lbs by then. This gives me a little over 2 months to reach my goal.

I want to swim a mile... I swam 1/2 mile last week... 32 laps... and nearly died. That's really upsetting to me - I swam competatively for 13 years and would swim for 2 hours straight every day. I know I can get back there but it's going to be hard work.

And lastly, I want to get to the gym at least 3x a week. I know this is nessecary to see any results but I seriosuly HATE the gym, especially in the summer. But I know I need to go and just do something... even if it's only for a half hour.

So here goes nothing! Today kicks off day 1 at the gym...

  • That is awesome! you can so do it & you have plenty of time!
I just kicked up my work outs about 2 weeks ago and 5lb melted off right away - my goal  is 20-30 more by my 10/11/12 wedding (bout 3months)
I am going to the work gym every morning before work and doing 25min of 90 sec walk/60sec jog
I am also trying to do Work out DVDs 3 times a week in the evenings
FI & I are also trying to do something athletic - throw the football, light tennis or a walk on the weekends as long as it is not too hot !

I am also eating less bad carbs and a lot of salmon :)

    Go team healthy life style!

No but one of my coworkers just suggested that website to me. I'll definitely check it out. And good luck to you :)

  • I did it! Forced myself to get to the gym last night... did 2 miles on a bike and 1 mile on the treadmill. Not sure if I'm going to make it there tonight but if I do I plan on using some of the weight machines. I need to work on these arms if I want a strapless dress :)

  • Just a suggestion, you may want to set more realistic goals for yourself. Healthy weight loss is 1.5-2lbs a week MAX, which is 12-16lbs in 2 months (though your overall 80 lb goal seems attainable if you stick to a workout routine & eat healthy).

I've been working out like crazy (5-6 days a week) and eating substantially healthier (no fast food, a heck of a lot less alcohol, fruits & veggies etc.) and tracking my calories and it's taken me 10 months to lose 30 lbs. - don't get discouraged if the weight doesn't melt off, you should focus on the fact that you're getting healthier :)

Lastly - it looks like you have exercise goals but don't mention food. Weight loss is 80% what you eat and how much of it and 20% exercise. I highly recommend tracking your food intake on a site like myfitnesspal.com to get the other needed component of successful weight loss.

Goodluck! Check out the Getting In Shape board - the ladies over there are wonderful.
