Plus-Sized

Just got engaged and plus sized

I just got engaged last month and I am a plus sized woman. I'm absolutly terrified that I'm not to going to find a dress that fits or that looks good on me. I get excited at times when I see a dress, but then reality hits and I just shut down. I really want to lose some weight for our wedding, I mean I have a year to work on it, but I can't seem to stick with anything. This is really weighing on my mind.

Re: Just got engaged and plus sized

  • congratulations on your engagement!!  and don't stress to much yet.  first enjoy this time with your fiance and your family.  then pick a date and venue.  then go shopping! have fun!

  • First, you do have plenty of time to lose some weight if that's what you want. But, second, there are LOTS of designers with plus size lines.  You should go try on some dresses and see how you feel in different styles/designs.   Try Alfred Angelo or Mori Lee.  they both have beautiful plus size lines.

  • Congratulations! I wouldn't be worried. I'm sure you will find something you love!

<div>I got engaged last month too. I have the same fears, but don't let that bother you. You will find a dress that looks awesome. I actually just started the medifast diet and I lost 25 pounds in 2 months!! I've never lost this much weight before.  It isn't as hard to follow as you might think.  </div>
  • Congratulations! I got engaged in January and will be getting married November 2013. I joined Weight Watchers a month ago. I was worried about trying on dresses as well. There are a lot of plus sized designers out there now so I don't think you will have a problem!
  • I wore a Maggie Sottero - her corset backs do amazing things.

  • I just posted my pics with my Maggie Sottero on - her a-lines are THE MOST AMAZING THING EVER.  Corset back.  Check it out - I don't think you'd ever guess my wedding dress was a size 20 by the pics I just took last night without Spanx even.

    Congratulations on your engagement!

I completely understand how you feel, as I felt the same way.

I saw you are from Cincinnati and that is actually where I found my dress (im from columbus)

There is an awesome botique right across the river from you called Belle Bridal Boutique. They specialize in Plus size dresses only. You get a private appt (which for me was great bc i had some major anxiety issues with all the people around at the other places) and Stacey is a doll to work with.

I thought i wouldnt find anything to make me look the way I want to do and I found my dream dress, it actually comes in next month!

Keep your head up and and know that you are beautiful!

Also as far as keeping up with getting weight off, I am currently doing Weight Watchers and the program is great, you have such a support network with your weekly meetings, also see if a buddy can do it with you, it may help!

    Congrats on your engagement!!!

I think we all have had the feeling you are talking about. I had horrible anxiety about my weight before getting my dress, first fitting, and still now thinking about putting it on in a month.
But everytime I have put it on, those feeling went away.  I feel nothing but beautiful, and the only thought in my head is how much FI is going to love me in my dress!!!!!

You will find the perfect dress!!

You have plenty of time to lose weight, if thats what you choose.  Eat healthy and exercise when you can.  But don't lose sight of the fact that FI loves you exactly the way you are.  Enjoy your engagement and planning

Yes! I am not from that area, but this weekend I am going to go dress shopping at a place the only has plus size dresses. I am super excited that im not going to have to try and fit into a size 10 dress to see if I like it or not!

I would check the place out if I were you and schedule an appt. It looks like your wedding is only a year away!

Best of luck to you! And enjoy dress shopping!
  • congratulation. if you are thinking of losing weight, you should not buy your dress now. you should wait until 6 months before the wedding and see how it goes. dont be afraid of trying dresses in store. try all types of dresses so you know which style looks good on you. another option is to buy dresses custom made online. my friend has the same problem, plus size as well, she bought her dress online from 7foxmall.com. the dress fit her nicely and she is happy
  • My dress is by Mori Lee from the Julietta collection. It's amazing how well it flits and hides all the stuff I don't like about my body.

I called the stores I wanted to go dress shopping at to make sure they had sizes that I could get into. Most stores had up to 26W but the store I ended up getting my dress at even had a few samples at 32W! Knowing they had sizes I could get into made me feel much more confident walking into the store.
