AHHH! I need Help! Dress won't fit!

Today I got a reminder that my dress is going to come in the begining of September.  I was overly optamistic in april that i would loose weight and bought the dress that was 1 size smaller then the sample one I tried.  the sample one was a little loose but tight in my hips. I have to loose 2 inches in my hips for the dress to fit.

I am kicking it in gear now and my hope is to lose a bit more weight but I know the dress won't fit.  What can the seamstress do?  Anything?  AHHHH!!! I feel like I screwed this one up pertty bad!

Trust me I should, coulda, woulda but I didn't. so now what?

  • They may be able to let it out a little bit. Def talk to the seamstress!! You have time!

  • Since you only have 2 months left, you'll have to start your alterations in the next 3-4 weeks, at most.   So, I would suggest drinking a TON of water, watching what you eat.  Like seriously, every single kernal of anything that goes into your mouth.  Try to limit any caffeine (causes water retention).

And talk to your seamstress.  Most dresses can be let out 1/2 or 1 full size, but it depends on the designer.    I would probably talk to the seamstress sooner rather than later, in case it cannot be let out and you end up having to try to find another dress.

  • Its easy to tell if your dress can be let out and how much. Look inside at the seems and see how much fabric is left hanging over past the seem. If you want to let it out and inch then there needs to be at least 3/4 of an inch of fabric.

Depends on the designer.  My dress has "hidden seams". basically, there is fabric over the seams, so they would have to remove the fabric to see how much space in the seams is there.
  • If you would still like to lose some weight, 2 months IS enough time to drop some inches. I recommend going over to the Getting in Shape board - they always have lots of really helpful suggestions.

I personally use myfitnesspal.com to track all my calories and I have a FitBit that tracks my activity every day. It's been slow losing weight, but I've dropped 2 pants sizes since I started trying back in October.

  • I'm kind of in the same boat.  I was over eager in my enthusiasm and determined to loose weight when I bought my dress, and I'm afraid I may have actually gained a couple.  When I purchased my dress they had the Ivory dress in the size I could fit into, and the white in the size down.  I decided I wanted to do the white and I had plenty of time to loose  the weight!  I'll start at the beginning of April turned into the beginning of June turned into it's now almost halfway through August...ahh!   Tomorrow's the day of truth for me.  I'm hoping there's some stitching in there where they can let it out and it be ready for my Oct. 6 wedding.  I hope you are able to get yours worked out!

Though, like someone said up there 2 months is enough time!  We can do it!  I lost a lot before a couple years ago by drinking water (I'm a Coca-cola addict! ahh) and watching calories on Sparkpeople; though unfortutely I stopped and gained it all back plus some.  And now there's just been so much going on with planning it's been hard to get back on that kind of track! lol
