Plus-Sized

Mandatory Bra and Garment Fitting and Purchase

First let me say I am plus sized myself size 18/20.  A couple of years ago I had my very first bra fitting and it changed my life!  My back feels better and I look so much better in my clothes. My brastaps stay on my shoulders and in the middle of my back where its supposed to be. I told all my friends and they all say its something they will do oneday.  I have 3 bridesmaids and all of them are size 24 and up.  I want my ladies to look good and strongly suggested they get FITTED (not just get a shaper online somewhere) for undergarments. I keep telling them the pros of a good fitting bra and they just don't seem like they are going for it.  Is that within my right as a bride to require them to purchase shapewear?  I want them to be comfortable and look good and confident on what can be a stressful day for everyone.  I just don't want them pulling at their dresses and brastaps all night long.  So please let me know what you ladies think.

Re: Mandatory Bra and Garment Fitting and Purchase

  •  I think the seamstress who is doing the alterations should tell them if they need better undergarments.  Mine told me that I did, and even gave me a referral to a lingerie specialist they work with.
If you feel close enough to them, and you think they can afford it, you could share with them what a great experience you had getting fitted for proper undergarments, but beyond that, there's probably not much more you can do.
  • What they wear under the dress is none of your business.  I get it, you want them to look their best, but them pulling on their bra straps all night is their decision, not yours.  Not everyone is comfortable having a stranger measure them like that.  Respect it and worry about what you are going to do to look your best that day.  All eyes will be on you, not them.

You can offer to buy them a bra and shapewear. You can not require that they purchase it. And if they don't want to wear it, then they shouldn't have too.
