Plus-Sized

Some People are Idiots.... (NWR, just me complaining)

So, as I've said before on this board, I'm not traditionally 'plus sized', but I am extremely tall (well over six feet).  I'm taller than most men I see, but I still think I look very feminine, I wear girlie clothes, and have a girlie shape.  But, today while I was in line at the grocery store, this guy comes up behind me (he had only seen me from the back) and -i couldn't believe it- asked me if I was actually a girl! As soon as I turned around, he recanted the question (guess It's more obvious from the front, can't imagine why, haha). He was tall himself and seemed pretty friendly, so I don't think he was being hurtful on purpose, I think he was just that dumb.

Long story short, I'm
a) shocked that people that stupid are allowed outside
 and
b) feeling totally insecure!  I haven't felt so uncomfortable about my height since junior high!

Anyone else deal with any total idiots lately? Perhaps it's an epdemic

I'm sorry that happened to you. Some people just don't know what's appropriate. Try not to feel too insecure by this jerk. He's not worth your energy.

I have a story regarding a total idiot and my poor FI. My FI shops in the big and tall section of stores because he's really tall (like, 6'3) and just a tad overweight. He asked one of the workers where the section was, and she pointed behind her and said, "this whole section here is for people just like you". I just looked at her, shocked, that she said something like that. I don't even know if she meant it badly or if I'm being too sensitive about it... maybe she was having a bad day or something? It just pisses me off that people can be so rude.

  • People just like you? Wow, that does come off rude.  I think sometimes people just have no idea how the things that come out of their mouth sound.

I think sometimes people are just so shocked to see people who are out of the ordinary that they don't think what they say through.  Also, if your FI ever feels too tall, tell him he can come hang out with my family and our friends, he'd be shorter than half the girls! (myself included)

Thanks for your positive words, also, your cat is adorable, mine are too small to get onto the counter, but I'm hoping they will be faucet drinkers once they can manage the leap.  (one of my previous cats was)

It is an epidemic. You never realize how idiotic people are until you throw something out of the ordinary at them.

I have a prosthetic eye. It's not really noticeable, so when people find out, they are usually surprised. The questions that I've gotten are crazy."Can I touch it?" Yes. Someone seriously asked if they could touch my eye. I replied, "Can I touch yours?" He told me no. So, I asked him why would I let him touch my eye. We ended up having a long discussion about how gross it would be to let some strange guy put his dirty fingers on my eye. I don't know if he ever fully understood why I said no.

The main time that my eye is noticeable is when I'm exhausted. The eyelid droops. During Black Friday (I worked three shifts at two different retail jobs that day), my manager goes, "What the hell is wrong with your eye?" I just stood there, shocked. The manager over her walks over and says, "What the hell is wrong with your manners?" I refused to work with that manager again and quit a month or so later.

</div><div>Wow... I'm sorry you had to deal with that. That's horrible. I definitely think that people are too judgemental these days and are obsessed with perfection. Perfection is impossible to achieve.. and even if someone feels that they are perfect, there is always some flaw within them. Usually that flaw is either arrogance or ignorance...or a combination of the two.</div><div>

  • My go-to rebuttal is usually, "Well, cancer doesn't only take hair." I've had a prostethic since I was 4. In 18 years, I've only run into a handful of rude people. Usually when I tell them that I lost it to childhood cancer, most people back down. It really is unfair that I have to explain what happened to me just for people to understand it.

I've never had someone ask me if I was male or female, but I can definitely relate to people speaking before thinking. I'm sure OP is a gorgeous female. Maybe you need a pair of Juicy sweatpants. Haha! Just kidding, of course.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who deals with total idiots (not "glad" I guess, but... You know what I mean.) I'll have to look into those sweatpants. haha. Rude people shouldn't be let out without a court appointed handler.
