Hairstyle question for you ladies

When do you make the first appointment with your stylist to do the first trial run of your hair?

Have any of you ladies actually done this? Was it worth it to you? Why or Why not?

Thanks my fellow brides!

Re: Hairstyle question for you ladies

  • I haven't done this yet (obviously, my wedding is quite a ways away) but it seems like a good idea.  Hair seems like kind of a big thing to entrust to a stranger on the day of your wedding.  If you get a trial run, you don't have to worry 'I hope it comes out right", you'll know your stylist is capable.

As for how early, maybe a month in advance? you'll know for sure what you want, but it's far enough out that if you hate it, you can find someone else!
  • I was kind of thinking about 4-6 months out so we can try different styles. I have to wear my hair at least half down to cover the tattoo on my back. FI doesn't want it in any pictures and the make up smears so I don't want it on my dress
  • 4-6 months may be a bit too long before the wedding. My stylist reccommends 4-6 weeks if thats what you meant.
  • I haven't done mine yet, but i feel that it would be very helpful and "necessary" so you know that it will look how you want it to, and that your stylist is able to do it.

I asked my cousin (who is a hair dresser) if many of her brides do this, and she said 9 out of 10 do them so they know that it will look how they think it will and want it to.

That is also the time to talk to her about how you might want it changed and/or altered a little after it is done at the trial, but before she does it on your wedding day.
  • my hair stylist said 4-6 weeks before wedding and its mandatory to get a trial prior to wedding day because they had a bride come on her wedding day to get her hair done and she almost missed her wedding because she wasn't happy with her hair. Good luck!

I did a hair trial in December - since i had to dress up anyway for my company christmas party. Thank goodness we did...it was pretty, but not what i was envisioning for the wedding.  I ended up having another one last Saturday...it went amazing.  I loved my hair and it was perfect.  I think that's the exact reason why brides have a hair trial...just in case.
    ETA: I'm 16 weeks out.
