Anniversary Ring

How do you ladies feel about having an anniversary ring?

When would you get the ring? 5 year anniversary? 10? 15? 20? 25?
Would you wear it with your engagement ring and wedding band, or separately? How would you wear it?
What kind would you want? Show a pic or describe it.

Re: Anniversary Ring

  • I am all for them as all of the women in my family have them. They have all received them after 10 years.

I personally like the idea of one that matches your wedding band to stack on the other side of your e-ring (thus why I hate double bands for a wedding band).

  • We've been married only 5 months so it's a little early to be thinking about that, IMO. My rings are exactly what I wanted and they're a classic style that I don't think will ever go out of style, so I don't foresee myself wanting anything else.
  • we bought my rings knowing that we would be buying new ones in the future- we don't know when, that was just our ultimate plan. we didn't have a big budget when e-ring shopping at all, so we got what we could afford now and figured that we would get something different later.

originally i wanted a 3-stone ring, princess cut, in white gold. with a small princess-cut band to go with it. nothing fancy, but definitely over the tiny budget we we had in the beginning.

now(since the wedding, actually) i've been thinking about double duty rings- if H had gotten one for me as an e-ring, we wouldn't have gotten a band. i loved them when we were looking for rings, but we couldn't afford them. heres a few i really like:

  • Well, we're not getting married for about two years, so I have tons of time before I have to decide that. We will probably eventually do an anniversary ring at like, 10 years, but I love my engagement ring, so I'll probably wear all of the rings!

  • My wedding band has 5 to 7 small diamonds and fits the curve of my e-ring. I am also getting a plain band. I might wear plain band, ering, diamond band so it kinda looks like an anniversary band. Mostly the plain band will be when I want to look married but don't want to be wearing anything particularly expensive.

  • I would love to have a second wedding band as an anniversary gift, however it is completely unnecessary. I don't really wear jewlery, so that would be the only kind of wedding ring I want.
  • One of the doctors at my clinic wears three big ol' rings. I swear it's all up to about her knuckle. But yeah, they're wedding band, engagement ring, and I think the last one was actually for the celebration of the birth of their first child.

The ring we've been given is actually my grandma's anniversary ring that my grandpa had made for their 25th anniversary with the original diamond from her engagement accompanied by four other diamonds of the same size and eight little diamonds. It's big enough that I'll be hardpressed to get a wedding band with it, much less an anniversary something. Since I don't wear jewelry with the exception of a necklace that he gave me when we first started dating, I don't think I'd want something additional.

  • I have rings that will not work with an anniversary band. We bought them as a set because we couldn't find anything anywhere else that would work with my e-ring (it has channeling on the side and didn't look good with non-channeled bands).

If we do something like that, it will probalby be a right-hand ring that I would not wear all the time. I would think 10 or 20 years would be a good time for that.

  • Personally, I don't think I would want one. I just heard of the idea recently and wasn't sure what I thought of it. It seems too busy to me. Wearing two rings would definitely be enough...actually imho, just my engagement ring would be fine to me.

I've seen women who wear these huge rings all in a row and I think it is hideous. Especially the ones that are very bulky and have enormous diamonds. I think it's tacky.

THIS! I just bought my "wedding rings" off amazon for like $50 because it's really all we can afford. FI spent more than I wanted him to on my engagement ring even...we're paying for most of our wedding out of our own pocket, so I want to put the money where it really matters and will do the most good. The way I see it, I lose and break jewelry all the time, I didn't want that to be where all our money went. (Not to mention you get into stuff like conflict diamonds etc, so I don't care if I'm wearing CZ, it makes no difference to me).

Maybe in 5-10 years we will be in a place where we can afford to get something a LITTLE nicer (still under $500 though!), it'll be something we consider then. We got his wedding ring off of amazon.com as well for like $20 and he thinks it's the coolest ring EVER, so maybe we'll just stick with these :)

  • I'm in the same boat as jmo. When we bought the e-ring, it was what we could afford. It's perfect for us, but I hope at some point in the future, we can afford something a little more. But I'm a sucker for shiny, so really, it wouldn't have to be an anniversary ring, it could be earrings, a necklace, a bracelet, and I'd be just as happy.
  • I dont know if eventually I will want a different ring, but for now- i LOVE my ring (and since I dont wear a lot of jewelry, it is plenty!)

I am considering an anniversary style ring for my wedding band. Depending on the style I may switch my engagement ring to my right hand and only wear it occasionally.
I really want a band with sapphires and either diamonds or white sapphires.

  • After reading all of your responses I'm feeling a little boushy (hoping its because there is a gap in age haha).
We saved for a long time to get the exact rings that we would be happy with and not have to change. Mine has channel setting on the sides of the primary diamond. My band is channel setting as well, not too thick. We decided on our year anniversary we would get another band for the other side.
I am trying to load pictures but my phone won't let me.....

  • My mom has gotten a new right hand ring for I think her 5, 10, 15, and 20 year anniversaries. She still wears her e-ring and wedding band on her left hand. I actually wear the ring my dad gave her for their 15th anniversary (I think...maybe it was their 10th, I really don't remember) on my right hand and I doubt I'll ever really want to take it off. If I do, it will probably be to wear the ring my parents got me for my 16th birthday. So I doubt FH will ever have a chance to get me an anniversary ring ;)

That being said, my e-ring has a matching wedding band that is really, really skinny (CLICKY). We might get a second band in the future for an anniversary, or maybe the birth of our first child.

Also, Cinderella I'm with you -- we splurged on our rings, because we don't want to change -- it's the one piece of jewelry we'll wear our whole lives.

  • I really like the look of anniversary rings
but i think I would wear it on my right hand

my engagement ring is beautiful, but fiance and i had always planned to "up" the center stone for an anniversary.

i have a split shank ring- so one ring looks kind of silly on one side- so we decided we would get two smaller pave bands, one for each side.

I really LIKE the look of stacking the rings- so i had thrown around the idae of maybe getting something like an anniversary band that i could wear in place of my ering that was kind of a stacker ring that i could stack with my two wedding bands.

Kinda of like rachel zoe- minus the million carats.

Dude, your ring reminds me so much of mine, lol (so I'm totally with you on loving it!) I don't think I'll ever want another one...both this and my wedding band are family heirlooms from his family; I really love the idea of these being the rings she had for her entire marriage to him (both his grandparents have since passed away.) Hoping they've got more good mojo!
