How much time do you have until your wedding???
I have been and am still trying to lose more...
I ordered my dress 8 months before and they measured me then - i took the option to order one size down - I was told they could take it in about 3 sizes with out distorting the dress and let it out a little bit too just incase i did not lose much more...  just ask your consultant since each manufacture is different
sadly i have only lost another 5lb since the order... but i am still working out and eating healthy since weight and inches can be very different ;)
Keep in mind if you don't even lose an ounce you will still be a gorgeous bride

  • If your planning on buying your dress soon, you may want to make sure you get a dress that will fit with little alterations even if you don't lose anything.  I bought my dress about 11 months ago, bought one size smaller, because I was losing weight......... not sure what happened, but I tried it about 2 months ago and it was so tight I couldn't breathe.  I have since lost a little and my dress now fits, glad I have a little more time to shed a few more.  Good Luck!!
  • I plan on ordering one size down. Then I HAVE to lose some lbs!! Im measuring with spanx on, minus 1 dress size......... gulp. I'm 6 months away and will be ordering in a couple weeks.

This is a notoriously bad idea.  You should really order in the size you are NOW, and have it taken in if you lose the weight. Taking a dress in is easy, letting it out isn't.

There are hundreds and hundreds of horror stories about brides either getting sick, or injured and not being able to lose the weight they planned, and then 2 weeks before the wedding, they are scrambling to find another dress.
  • Please, please reconsider! There are enough stresses to wedding planning without do-or-die weight loss hanging over your head. If you lose the weight you hope to, it will be simple to have your dress altered. If you don't lose weight, you will at least be wearing a dress you love, not a last minute replacement. Good luck!

<div>Agreed.  Totally bad idea.  We get chicks over on GIS all the time begging us for magical cures because they ordered their dress down and then yeah, the weight didn't come off.  Because heck, if weight loss was easy and predictable.. wouldn't most people already be at their ideal size?

OP:  If you have time to spare, come on over to the GIS board, let us know what you're doing now and we can help you tweak your diet/exercise plan to help you get a bit closer.  Everyone's welcome!</div>
  • Losing weight doesn't mean that it's going to come off your stomach first.  In fact, when losing weight, your mid-section is usually the LAST place you'll see a difference.

Please, please, PLEASE do not order a size down!  Embrace who you are now, because your FI loves you just the way you are, and he will love you no matter what size your dress is.  But there's no reason to risk the stress of having a dress be too small and freaking out a week before the wedding.

  • Order a dress in your size and have it tailored a couple of weeks before. We always have brides that plan on losing weight but planning a wedding is super stressful and you don't want to waste money on a dress that won't fit you ultimately.
