I posted this on my month board & i realise i am not active here yet but would like some advice.
I have a dilema. Back when we started planning our wedding i was going to invite everyone, after all we are not having a catered meal (bbq that we are getting served) so costs are not terrible pp & our hall holds 500.
Come to find out that it only holds 29 round tables & that is pushing it. My MIL who caters said it is a squeeze at that. Which means we need to cut 100 people off our guest list. Right now i am at 252 & we need 232 but i know for a fact (100% sure) that a few people can't make it but we have to send them an invite anyways so i am pretty sure we can get it to 232.
Here is the problem, i can't do it in layers (aunts, uncles, all 1st cousins etc) as i would be way way over. One side of my family is really close (invite to ALL functions & have gotten together often since i was a kid) but the other side i rarely see. I have been invited to a total of 1 wedding on that side, which i am sure i have to invite him (the cousin who invited me to his wedding) or his mom (my aunt) will be mad (even though none of them even bought a ticket to our social) which means i have to invite his sister. I talk to 1 other cousin in town.
The rest of my cousins i only ever see or talk to at funerals or a rare get together. I mentioned the wedding to one cousin & told her to mark it down but i never sent any of them stds. Do i have to invite her because i mentioned it or can i say there are space restraints that i never knew about when i mentioned it? She is really the only one i am worried about offending, i can't see many being offended when we never see each other.
I could never do it where i didn't have enough chairs, adding 10 to a table is pushing it & i do not want rectangle tables, our social had that & i liked it just fine for a social I do not like the way it looks for a wedding, especially one with table cloths & chair covers to make it look elegant.
