short rant

Okay, so FI and I are pretty young and while he's still in school and until we get married, we both live at home to save on rent. Well FMIL recently made a comment about our eating habits. We had been eating out a lot mostly due to the fact that there is literally nothing at the house ordinarily. So she told him to go get food for us to have and he did. And ordinarily, we will either make plans and have the ignored while his mother makes more food that she expects us to eat because she, FSIL and FFIL are all on dietary restrictions and don't eat much anyway.

So tonight, FI and I are trying to figure out what we want to do for dinner, so I suggest making pizza. He agrees, only to find out that FFIL had planned to make fried rice which we've had at his mother's request or demand very often over the past few weeks. I'm now irritated because I don't want to go out for pizza and have FMIL comment on our eating habits again or order in for pizza and have FMIL comment and FFIL make a snarky comment about not eating what he made.

Ughh...I may just have a PB&J sandwhich later.

FYI: FIL's fried rice is awesome, but this will be like the 4th time in two weeks.

Re: short rant

  • Can you make dinner at your parents' house tonight?
  • Ugg.  Hate it when that happens! Always happend with FI and I.  Do you want to eat X tonight?  No, I've had X three times this week.  Insert any food into X!

see, and that's not really the problem. we can agree on something to eat, but this his family screws it up by either making something else without consulting us, or comandeering out meal and making it something else.
  • I'm sorry. That must really suck. I know when I'm home visiting my mom, we always eat whatever she wants because it's her house, but FI and I are lucky enough to live in our own apartment, so most of the time we're able to eat whatever we want. Your FI's mom would definitely get annoying with taking control of all of your meals. How long do you have to stay with her?

I don't live with her, thank god. I would no longer be sane. We won't have much interaction from January to June, but then from June to probably November, we'll be dealing with the same thing. We spend most of the time at his house because his house is cleaner and bigger, therefore making it easier to find time alone. Just irritating.
  • My FMIL is the same, she acts VERY indignant when we choose to eat out instead of eating something around her house or her cooking. We live across the state, so when we go home to visit with family/friends we are always running around like crazy and that's why we end up eating out so much, but she takes it personally!

I'm very thankful I live with FI and we are able to cook what we want whenever - we cook dinner almost every night and it's always new stuff (though, there is the odd occasion where he will ask for pizza 3 nights in one week and I will want to strangle him)
