Kids and wedding....HELP!

Hey Everyone!I'm having a little dilemma with how to prepare for the children that will be at our wedding. First, how would you suggest getting an accurate count? Should I ask on the response card? I thought that would be good, then I thought it may encourage people to bring kids when they may not have been planning to do that originally. I mean, I love kids, but too many can get a little chaotic. Second, Any ideas for how to entertain them at the reception? Thanks a lot!

The parents responded for their kids on the RSVP cards.  I don't see how else you can get an accurate count.  And the kids at my wedding entertained themselves by dancing.

Do you have an inner envelope for your invites?  That's where I wrote everyone who was invited.  If you don't have an inner envelope, could you fill out the names on the response cards for your guest so they know exactly who is (and who isn't) invited?

You should absolutely invite the children that you want to be there on your invitations - either on the actual envelope or if you choose to fill in the response cards with the names of your guests.  Do you have a kids meal option?  You can just list it as a meal choice for those under 10 or 12 or whatever.

For entertaining the children, I'm making baskets with coloring books, markers (the kind that only work on paper), little games, etc.  I'm also  making an adult basket with cards, puzzles, etc.

when you say 'adult basket'... do you mean for the older kids?  Who gets the adult basket...?  Or is this your OOT gift?

By adult basket, I mean any one older than 8.  A good bit of our families aren't big into dancing so we figured we would give them something to do.  A lot will leave early, but a good bit will stay till the end of the night to help us clean up.
