Question about Seated Meals

Hey ladies!!

How many of you decided on seated meals? We decided to do it that way, and I sent out the invites with a note to initial what each person wanted. We keep getting "1 chicken 1 beef" sort of thing and I'm finding that almost every time I get an RSVP card, I'm having to send a message to the person to clarify who wants what.

Obviously it's too late to change the wording on the invites, but is anyone else experiencing this?

I really thought my RSVP cards were so easy to understand, but they seem to cause a lot of confusion!!

How are you doing your escort cards?  If they are by couple, can't you indicate the meal choice for each, and then the server will bring over one of each to them?  Some caterers also go around and confirm meal choices with each guest, so as long as you tell them how many of each entree, they figure out who gets what.  We are having a buffet, but those are just things I've heard other people mention that might save you some work if you check with your caterer.  And I don't know why RSVP cards are so hard for some people to understand :)

We are doing a family style meal so we were able to skip the worry about indicating who gets what.  I'm sure it's one of those things that is just a pain in the butt.  Not hard, just tedious!  You would think that people RSVP'ing would get what you need, but then again who knows the last time they planned a wedding!  lol

I'm not having that problem, but only because I personalized each response card with the names of each person invited and they had to check chicken, pork, vegetarian, or declines.  I have zero extra time in my schedule right now to be confirming meals with people, so I'm glad I thought ahead and set things up the way I did.

We are doing escort cards for each individual person. The set up I have will look better with more escort cards, so I'm kind of hooked on the idea of doing them each individually, although it would certainly make things easier if I could do them by couple/family!

And I wish we had room to individualize the way you did hcorrigan! We are inviting everyone that's invited to the wedding to a get together the night before for the rehearsal dinner since the wedding is up at Sugarloaf in the summer, and there's nothing else open (we rented out one of the local bars) and we wanted our guests to have something to do if they wanted to come Friday night. Basically,we ended up having to have our guests RSVP for two events, one being the wedding where they had to indicate their meal. We did DIY invite kits, and the RSVP cards ended up being so small so we had to squeeze everything on it!

I used a DIY kit as well.  I pretty much strayed from the traditional RSVP style to make everything fit.  My original reason for doing it was to make it very specific WHO was invited to the wedding, and then I realized how easy meal choices would be.

Even if you end up getting the husband/wife's choices wrong on the individual escort card, they can always switch or tell the waitstaff that they had the reverse.

I agree with hcorrigan - just label the best you can and let them swtich that day.  That's probably the easiest way to handle it!

We did ours this way so that there wasn't any confusion.  I would say that you are just going to have to track down these guests and then I would just indicate somewhere on the seating card what thier choice was so that the server knows.

We are having a plated meal and we haven't sent ours out yet.. but i have a feeling we will run into the same problem!!!  Thanks for the heads up on this though, i may end up changing the wording a bit, i really do not have enough time in my life to call up 200 people to re-ask what they want for dinner.  I'm so sorry that you are running into that much trouble with it!  RSVP cards shouldnt be rocket science, but it appears that way!

We are doing a duet meal so it was a nonissue.  We did have someone RSVP decline with regret with no name or return address though.. Good luck!
