Does anyone know how to put an engagement announcement in the paper?

Depends. Which paper do you want to put it in? Most charge too, especially if you want to include a photo. I think most let you submit it electronically -- check out their websites.

I recently ran ours in 4 newspapers, all for free.  I avoided the Portland Press Herald, since they charged - and quite a  bit, at that.  I grew up in Westbrook, so my family considers their local paper to be the American Journal - they were the most flexible, the guy who does the community news took the time to write up our full "story" - my 2 degrees, FI's 2 + what he's currently working on, and even my 2 jobs.  Most other papers have a form to fill out and only allow for one piece of education and one job.  I also ran ours in York/Portsmouth and Dover - where we live.  York/Portsmouth had a page to print out and mail in, while Dover had an online form...  I found them by googling "engagement announcements" and the paper name.  Portland was very difficult to find!

According to your bio, you're in Leeds, so I'm assuming your local paper is the Sun Journal. They let you submit it online, but their form isn't very helpful, and it doesn't have any information about what you can include.
