how did everyone do their invitations?!

i know i am starting early but i think i am going to make an appointment with a company in the old port to do  my invites, they were at the wedding show at the holiday inn and were very nice! having them done i will have one less thing to worry about- and they can customize them to whatever you want for a look!

anyways- how did everyone do their invitations?! did you make them yourself? or did you order them online? or did you have a local company do them for you?! 

suggestions please!

I'm planning on using VistaPrint... I've printed several things from there before and always been really happy and it's so easy to plug in the info. With a groupon, they'll be super cheap and easy

I used Reaves Engraving. Great quality, very classic look, great customer service, and they have the cheapest letterpress option I found.

Ditto this. I bought ribbon that matched my color to add to them, but everything else was through a kit at Michael's. I ended up with a TON of left over silver ribbon because that was what was in the kit originally.

hcorrigan and sarahfowler - what are your opinions having already made them yourselves? Would you do it again? Was it a lot of work?

I'm torn between the online route (vistaprint), or a DIY kit. I want to keep them cheap, but also do not want to spend a whole lot of time on them.

Personally, I had an easy time doing it myself. I've heard horror stories, and I was definitely a little scared when I started, but I made sure to prepare myself by figuring out the best method before I started.

H did all the computer and printing stuff, and I glued them together, tied the ribbons, stuffed and addressed the envelopes, etc. I actually found that H enjoyed helping me on it, and it was pretty easy once we got a rhythm down.

Like I said, I've heard horror stories, but I had an easy time. If you do it, just make sure to buy extras (because inevitably you'll mess up on a few).

I wouldn't have done anything differently, and that included making my own wrap around labels for the envelopes.  It did take a lot of time, but I was able to personalize every single one of my response cards with the names of the people invited/food choices.  After all was said and done, I spent less than $60.  It is time consuming, but the savings in money made it worth it for me!

thanks for all the input! i just want to make sure everything is done correctly and that all names and such are spelled right! so i kind of want to do it locally so then i can keep track and keep checking

I made my save the dates and I am working on finishing up my invitiations.  S is still working on all the computer stuff.  I have no idea how much my save the dates/invitations would have been if I had had someone else make them but it certainly wasn't inexpensive for me to do.  I love the satisfaction of making them myself, being creative, and having them be totally different (we are also going to be able to personalize every invitation).  I would say make them if it's something you love to do rather than as a way to reduce your expense.

I found a free template online and then edited it/flipped things etc until it was how I wanted it. I then uploaded it on vistaprint and added the text. I had them printed through vistaprint and I they came out better than I would have imagined! If you have time and are willing to be creative you can make beautiful invitations for alot less!

I made my own using paper from paperandmore.com and cardsandpockets.com.  I used an etsy store to digitally design them.  They were one of my favorite aspects of the wedding, and I got so many compliments on them! Here they are!

I am trying ot save every penny I can by doing them myself but I did a lot of comptuer editing in highschool and I love doing this stuff so it will probably be more fun then anything for me. But for some it can get overwhelming. My sister in law tired to make hers herself and hated the way they came out and regreted it but that was her experience and she likes rushing things so no wonder why she didnt like the outcome because she just didnt take the time. I also looked on esty and if I dont liek the way mine turn out I will probalby do a digital file off of that site because I love some of the ones I have seen.

I'm also considering using a company in the Old Port, Papier Gourmet, We are trying to keep all of our vendors local too. I met them at the ME Bridal Show in January and they gave me a coupon for free addressing (which I really want to have done since my handwriting is terrible). I meet with them on Saturday and will try to remember to post about how the appointment goes. I have a really good feeling about them.

i want to go with that company in the old port as well. the girl i talked to was super nice and i think it would just be less stress on my mom and i in the planning process to have them do it for us!

I made mine through Vistaprint- I ended up spending $66 on 100 invites, I waited about bout Groupons and living social deals. the $66 includes the cost of the groupons and shipping! and I couldnt be happier with them, I think they are Beautiful!

We had a very nice meeting with Papier Gourmet today and ended up ordering our invitataions from them. The ones we liked best were about $6 per set. Some of the others we liked were more expensive but we feel that we got a great deal. Service was really good, no pressure.
