seamstress....

So I bought my dress at Andrea's bridal and need a few alterations done: bussle, breast darts, and to have the neckline fit better (halter). I set up an appointment with Mary-beth (Andrea's seamstress) who felt confident if we met at the end of July she could complete the alterations. I moved about 4 hours away and had to cancel the appointment. We have been playing phone tag for OVER A MONTH now!!!! I realize It's BARELY August but I'm scared that if I can't get ahold of her/see her that my dress won't be ready. I only have two months left. Thoughts? Should I start looking at other seamstresses? Any recommendation? I live in Washington County (past Ellsworth) but am in the Lewiston/Auburn area fairly frequently (where we are getting married).  Has anyone else had similar alterations? How long did they take to complete? help.

I got my dress from Andrea's, too!  I heard that the Andrea's seamstress might be able to do alterations out of her house instead of you having to go to Portland (I think she lives in the Augusta area), but I ended up going somewhere closer to me in Bangor.  I had my dress taken in over a size, bustled, and hemmed, plus I had cups sewn in.  It took a little over a month, but that was because the seamstress was busy with prom dresses, and there was no reason to rush in my case, since my dress came in early.

I have don't how far past Ellsworth you are, so I don't know if Bangor reccs would be useful to you.  I used the seamstress that works at Henry's Bridal.  Her name is Lai Liu, and the number is 990-5467.  Since you didn't buy your dress from Henry's, it is an extra $50, but the convenience was worth it for me.  My H got some suits altered by Linda (I think her store is called Linda's Alterations, and it's on the Acme Road in Brewer).  She also does wedding dresses, and I've heard good things--she did a great job with the suits.

    Good luck!

alwadw, i am actually going to Mary-Beth's house tonight in Richmond for my Mom's fitting, she was unable to come with us that day for our fittings and all she needs is a little adjustment in the straps, and it's a lot closer for us than Portland.  But... it took my mom two weeks to get ahold of her!!!  She must be so busy, but seriously, my mom was ready to find another seamstress.. so i can understand how you feel!  I dont have any recommendations in that area, but as a reference point, my dress needed a bustle, bust darts, and to come in on the hips a little and she told me it would be done in two weeks.  I ended up rebooking a month from the fitting since it worked best with all of our schedules, but there is hope to get it done fast if needed.. it just may cost a little extra.

I wish you luck finding someone.. If i were you i would start calling local salons or clothing stores near the Lewiston area or Ellsworth area and ask for recommendations!  You might get a couple leads that way.  Good luck!
