There was a post not too long ago about DJ recommendations. A couple brides have loved Music Man. FI and I met with them and were not as impressed. Their price was good, but they didn't seem as personally interested in our wedding day as the other DJ we met with. I'll PM you with other thoughts...

I considered using Music Man for my DJ until I read these reviews:

    http://www.weddingwire.com/reviews/the-music-man-dj-servie-kennebunk/8c0226d9e800f221.html

Two of their three most recent reviews were bad....actually horrifying!

I'm treading lightly when it comes to using a DJ. I may end up using a band. I don't know. It's very hard to plan a wedding from away.

Kimmie, don't get discouraged! I can't imagine planning from away, so hard. You don't get to meet people before booking them.

I would highly recommend Double Platinum Celebrations and our DJ, Tom Morisette. I met with DJ Pat, owner of Double Platinum, first, and he spent over an hour talking to me, asking me questions, giving me advice on scheduling the event, etc. He was very interested in getting to know us and what our wedding day would be like. Then I met with Tom for the same amount of time, he was also very interested and very helpful. He gave us a lot of good tips about when to do things, how to time the reception so that people would be most likely to be dancing, all of that. He coordinates with the other vendors to make sure everything goes off without a hitch. Our venue said he's one of the best DJs they've ever had -- very professional and organized. I think Pat does most of the weddings himself, but has other DJs he works with if he's booked for your date (which he was for ours).

Since that initial meeting, he and his wife have been very accessible via email and phone, and Tom even talked with me about other dilemnas related to the big day and gave me some perspective on what he's seen work well and what hasnt.

Also, Double Platinum has a very easy-to-use online planner, where you can fill out all your important people, the timeline for your day, what the special songs are, and search through their entire library of music to put together a playlist. Anything they don't have, you can request right through the online planner. Also, you can give a link to guests and family and they can submit requests that you can go in and read, and approve or reject. This would make planning from away very easy, I would think.

They only have two reviews on weddingwire, but I have a friend who used DJ Pat for her wedding and had great things to say. Plus, our venue had great things to say about Tom, so I'm very comfortable with recommending them to others.

Here are their weddingwire reviews: http://www.weddingwire.com/reviews/double-platinum-celebrations-buxton/5b16c0246f97ee99.html

    And their website: http://www.maineplatinumdj.com/

I would also suggest looking into Dan DeBruin of DeBruin Entertainment (http://www.weddingwire.com/reviews/debruin-entertainment-portland/a63671ccc28547b5.html. He was booked for our date, but my photographer recommended him highly, and others have said he's great too. The guys from Rockwell Productions have also come highly recommended from other knotties. (http://www.weddingwire.com/reviews/rockwell-music-productions-south-portland/2524709289cd64fd.html)

You could try going on the Maine Nest board and talking to more former Knotties too, since reviews from people who have already gotten married would probably be the best feedback. I've gone on there and asked questions before -- they like to talk about wedding stuff and were very helpful!

Good luck, and we're all here to help you plan from afar if we can!

    (sorry so long...eeek!)

    Thanks MiniMin!

    That makes me feel better!

I was afraid that every DJ was like Music Man. I will check into the DJs you suggested.

I would definitely go with Dan DeBruin if he is available, he's awesome and I saw him at a friend's wedding so I booked him. I have heard nothing but bad news about the Music Man; I met with him regardless and was NOT impressed. Very pushy and VERY uninterested. Just seemed to be in it for a quick buck.
