Baxter State Park

Hi, has anybody been to Baxter State Park? Is it worth the trip? We're probably going to be in the Moosehead Lake area during a part of our honeymoon, we are thinking about going to Acadia National Park and maybe Rockland for the lobster festival (??) and aren't sure if we should make plans to visit the State park too. We haven't had anything set and we are open to ideas. I've been to Maine once and I've been to Camden, Ogunquit, Bar Harbor (Acadia too), Moosehead Lake (fell in love with the place!), Portland, Freeport- but I haven't been to the State Park. Would like to visit a new place but the FI hasn't been to Maine at all :)

Thanks!

I went to Baxter quite a few times when I was younger, but haven't been in years. It was definitely always a good time when I used to go though, and it is certainly beautiful! But I love all of Maine, so I'm biased. :)

I LOVE Baxter State Park! Maybe my favorite place in maine, and I've been a Mainer my whole life! If you are hikers, then their is plently of great trails. If you don't want to spend 2-11 hours on a trail, I suggest visiting Daicy Pond (in the park). It's small but beautiful and has a beautiful veiw of Mount Katahdin. You can rent canoes or kayaks for $1 and hour and paddle around. There area  few smaller hikes/nature walks that leave from Daicy so you can get out in the woods without spending a whole day hiking, and a super cute little library with a few games and a porch over looking the pond.  Sometimes the rangers will offer talkes at either Daicy Pond or nearby Kidney Pond in the afternoons and evening about the nature, history, or folklore of the area. They have about a dozen cabins right at the pond that you could rent for a night if you really wanted to whole experience. The park is really magical a night, so dark and quite, and you could sit by the water all evening...
