NWR: Portland area dog-friendly activities

We want to go to the Portland area for vacation in early September but we'll need to bring our dog.  Any suggestions for hotels/cabins, etc and things to do (beaches maybe)? TIA

We stayed at the Embassy Suites by the airport with our dog, which worked out well (ok to leave dog alone in room, free breakfast, a little extra space with the suite).  The inn where we got married is dog-friendly in some rooms, and I highly recommend them--the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport (hot breakfast and afternoon tea, lovely grounds, easy to go to the outlets).  The Quarry Run dog park is nice--they have a place to run as well as wooded areas for dogs to explore.  Have fun!
