RANT!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay so I am starting to get really irritated with my photographer!  She is really sweet and takes great photographs, and we have been communicating back and forth really well, but the engagement shoot things is really pissing me off!!!

Last week we were supposed to have our e-shoot and she cancelled due to potential rain (which I understand because it is very expensive equipment which she works with).  Note, I live In Dexter, ME which is 2 hours north of Portland and the weather is usually quite different and it didn't rain last week.  So we have rescheduled for tomorrow, and today she sends me a message wanting to reschedule again because it's only going to be 55 degrees out.  I live in Maine... I can take it... even in a summer dress!!!!!!!!!!  Both FI and I have taken off 2 days of work for this shoot and we can't lose out on another. We also planned on using an apple orchard for our location and the blossoms are in full bloom right now and I don't want to miss out.  Not only that but we had to ask permission from the land owners of our 2 locations.  It's just really irritating, FI is not impressed at all, and we both feel like she keeps doing this because she doesn't want to drive the 2 hours one way to do them, I understand that it is a long drive but we have paid her a pretty penny for our photography package and she agreed when we signed the contract that she would come to central Maine to do the shoot.

Okay so there I ranted and let of some steam. Done. Hopefully she still plans on doing the shoot tomorrow because I do and I wrote her back that we wanted to go forth, so hopfully it will happen and we will have some good pictures to show for it.

So I e-mailed her explaining the reasons why we wanted to do it tomorrow rather than put it off and now she is sick... so I just cancelled because I don't want to seem like a cruel individual for making her drive 2 hours and do a shoot in the chilly weather if she really is sick.  It's just so frustrating that all of a sudden she becomes sick within the last hour of us corresponding!!!

This is extremely frustrating (((  We had kind of a similar problem, where we took time off from work for a date 2 months in advance, and she cancelled due to weather, and wanted us to reschedule for a weekend day.  We work all weekend, every weekend.  I'm not losing out on the money I could make to work around HER schedule when we already agreed on a day/date.  For the money we're paying her, she can MAKE time.

So I feel you.  We finally did our shoot a week later, and it was nice to meet with and work with her.  My problem is, she says she's uploaded all of our e-shoot pictures to her album, and it's only 86 pictures.   For an hour shoot where it seemed like she took upwards of 200?  Am I being unreasonable??

I wish you much luck.  Remember, you're paying her a crap load of money, she works for YOU.

fickrj -- That is really irritating!! I don't blame you for being upset, because she should be accommodating, especially since she knew when you booked her you wanted photos in your area so she'd have to travel! And the sick excuse sounds a little suspicious, but maybe the fact that she's not feeling well coupled with the low temp is why she wants to postpone. But I think you should definitely get some kind of discount or extra special treatment. Ideally you wouldn't have to ask, she'd offer it, but I would let her know after your do your shoot she's really inconvenienced you and maybe she can give you a print credit or something. I hope it works out!

jena -- She may have taken a bunch, but only picked out the best ones to edit and give to you to select from. You could ask if she has more; maybe frame it as "We really love those ones where we're at X -- do you have any others we could see?" But unless she specified in your contract you'd have 200 to choose from, you're probably stuck with the 86. Good luck!

Thanks ladies I was just really frustrated last night and really needed to let it out especially because FI wanted me to stick up for myself, but I also don't want to piss off my photographer either where we still have over a year left to work with her.  FI is now corresponding with her and told her to get us a list of dates she was available over the next couple weeks and we picked one from that.  So it's next tuesday and the weather says it will be sunny 70 and 0% chance of rain, and she should be over her sickness by then (So no excuses).  I mean she is really nice, FI just feels like she's being lazy, and for this being the only thing she does you would think that she would be right on top of it.  Oh, well I have a paper to finish up today to finish a class, so at least I can use the extra time.  I just feel very underappriciated, I am giving her my business and it feels like I have had to reorganize several days already just for her.  I know that the pictures are for me and I will appreciate them when they are finished especially because she is allowing us three locations, the dress changes, and three hours of service.  I will just be glad when they are finally done, because all this hassle is kindof taking the excitement out of them.

aww, that is super frustrating!  I would be mad also.  Especially because the trees are in bloom....they better still be blooming on Tuesday!!!
