Reception Entrance Songs

My FI and I are stumped on what songs to pick for our wedding party and us to walk into the reception to. We want something fun that we can all dance into and be silly.

Any Sugguestions, or what have other's chosen?

On another note, we decided to have our wedding party for the wedding party dance dance with their wives/husbands.

Is anyone else doing something a little untraditional for their reception?

We aren't doing any special dances (WP, mother/son, father/daughter) other than our first dance, so I guess that would be untraditional.  We're also not doing a garter/bouquet toss.  As a WP member, I've always hated being forced to dance with someone, and since not all of my WP members are married or will have dates there, I don't want to make them feel uncomfortable with that either.  So we're just skipping it.

We're not having a boquet/garter toss or a wedding party at all.  I think it's nice to have the WP dance with their sig others instead of each other for the WP dance.

We haven't picked our intro song yet.  Our bandleader suggested picking a style of music that might not get played a lot at the reception if it reflects your and your FI's tastes (like a metal song for a couple where the groom really liked that kind of music, Flogging Molly, etc.).  We might do a folksy/string song, but I think we are mainly just going to go for something really upbeat.

I don't think we are really having an "entrance" although I should probably confirm that.  Since it's such a small group and we're going to be at cocktail hour, I believe the plan is to have my father say a little something and invite everyone in for dinner.

If we were going to have more of a "traditional" entrance I would totally go for a fun, high energy song but my FI and I have very different music tastes so it would be intersting.  My guess is we'd end up with something like Journey or some 90's hair band song.  Living on a Prayer or something like that.  lol.

Our reception itself is completely non-traditional.  No cake (gasp!), no cupcakes even!, no garter toss, no bouquet toss.  The only thing we wanted were the dances and we are doing a combo m/s f/d dance since his mom picked the song I had wanted for me and my dad.  So now we're dancing together!

We're going to have an entrance song, but we haven't decided yet what that will be. We will have a first dance, father-daughter & mother-son, but that's it. Then we'll have a bouquet toss for all women, not just the singles, for a prize (bottle of bubbly).

We are thinking about using "Howlin' for You" by The Black Keys. It's a really catchy and fun song and FI always gets a kick out of me when I get it stuck in my head and sing it to him while dancing around the house. :)

We are definitely all dancing in though. I love that idea and think it's a lot of fun. WP are all totally excited for it too. My mom is using it as an excuse to get my dad to do dance lessons with her. :) I'm not sure how much fun his mom will have with it, but we're all excited so it should be fun!

Other than that, we are mostly doing all the traditional dances. We are defintiely NOT doing the bouquet toss though. I hate doing it at other weddings, so I won't make my guests do it. I'm also considering doing a mother/daughter dance. Not in the beginning because I want to make our first dance and my father/daughter dance stand out, but I think later in the night I'll have a song dedicated to my mom and have all the mothers and daughters come out on the dance floor. I just want a way to thank my mom and show her how much I appreciate her!!

Ohhhhh...I really like that idea.  My mom raised me (father is not in the picture) but the idea of doing a "by ourselves" mother/daughter dance seems awkward to me.  But I LOVE this idea!!!!!!!

I'll be married in 2 days! We are entering our reception to "Happy Together" by the Turtles, but before we enter and after our parents, BM, MOH enter we are having a slideshow played of us .Our parents will enter to the strings to "Bitter Sweet Symphony"  and then the best man/matron of honor (who are married) are entering to "Empire State of Mind" since they live in NYC--it's a fun surprise! We aren't doing a bouquet/garter toss. We are doing a mother/son father/daughter dance.
