anyone from Canonsburg?

Since FI finally got his new job we're looking for a house.  I want to move to Canonsburg for several reasons and he wants to move to Belle Vernon b/c it's only 10  minutes from his new job.  It's been quite a dispute b/w us but he surprised me today by saying "So and so said there are a ton of house for rent in Canonsburg, he's going to take us to see them"!!!!  I'm so pumped that he's considering Canonsburg... so my question is, are there parts of Canonsburg we should stay away from?TIA!

i would stay away from the main hub of canonsburg-the valley where starbucks and all of that is. i looked at a house to rent down there, and was just unimpressed by it all. it was all so old and strange. the house that i looked at to rent was a friend of mine's home that he rents. the bathroom upstairs did not have a shower, just a tub, and the shower was in the basement. the upstairs had a kitchen, and two bedrooms, one of which was meant to be used as the living room. it was just a really strange set up. the area was safe, all old people, but the set up of the house itself was just very odd to me. i know they aren't all like that, but i just didn't really like the area either. seemed very run down. it just wasn't what i was looking for, that's all. i would stick to closer to rt 19.

Thanks Jennybean... closer to RT 19 would be ideal.  But I'm sure the closer we get to 19 the more expensive rent will be.  We already hate the idea of renting but we decided that's what we would do for at least the first year just in case one of us is absolutely miserable where we live.  Thanks again!

sure! like i said, that is not to say that there aren't some great homes for rent right in the heart of canonsburg! i just had a less than what i wanted experience, and that's just me! i just couldn't grasp the idea of showering in the basement...lol. what about the bridgeville area? or rather the very tip of that and where canonsburg meet? like...if you take the southpoint exit, and make a left at the bottom. at the next intersection, make a left (right takes you towards peters/mcmurray). after a minute or two it crops up into little neighborhoods. in fact, if you make a right at the next fourway stop sigh, it becomes wooded and a horse farm ends up on your left. right past there is spring run road (i think that's what it's called). my friend owns the company that is right at the end of that road. i love traveling down that road, towards bridgeville, bc it always seems so much newer yet still quaint. there's always hunting ridge also. older, but not a bad price. i couldn't move there bc they wouldn't take my cats (i think that was the reason). i grew up in a townhome behind the 7-11 on boyce road. and FI grew up on the other side of rt 19 and boyce (if only we had known!). GL!!

I lived in C-burg for about a year. I liked the area (downtown), but the apt complex I lived in had a bunch of kooky people. Not just slightly off their rocker, but really quite disturbed. I had an alcoholic man in his 60s next to me, a girlfriend-beater across the hall, drug addicts downstairs and some real gems in the other building. The complex was terrible, but when I saw people from a couple (really nice) houses away, they seemed really normal. I ended up breaking my lease cause I got mistaken for a drug dealer by the narcs. (I have tons of crazy stories from that place!) BUT, obviously there are great parts of C-burg. Just don't rent from where I did! Email me if you want to know the name/location! But if you're renting a house, no worries! :-)

Canon-Mac is great, so is Peters. St. Clair is really super-great, according to that list I posted yesterday for Molly. Canon-Mac is a huge district (or so it seems) bc it includes Cecil, which would be quite the hike for your fi for work.

Late to the party, but my FI and I rented an apartment in Canonsburg for about a year and a half and just bought a house in Canonsburg near rt 19. I can give you approximate prices and specific areas if you are interested! Email me at hab38 at pitt dot edu if you want some more info!
